zooming out ??

route builder
It's hard to get the "big picture" in Surveyor when creating maps, because I'm only able to zoom out a distance that will allow me to see about 20x20 grids (when looking straight down). Even at lower angles one cannot see a whole board.

Currently I'm "drawing" a real-life map in a smaller scale, and the only way I've been able to come up with, is to print out that map with grids that fits the scale of my project and then work on one "map grid" at a time. It works, but is really cumbersome.

Is there some way to zoom out further that I'm not aware of??? (to be able to view a map from "higher up")

... also a question of maps

On the same subject, if one was able to zoom out further, it would be possible to take screenshots of a larger area, thus making it possible to actually map a route and even print it. I've yet to discover a way to print a map of a route. I've tried TrainzMap, but that's not much help since all you get is the tracks and no indication on where on the boards/grids those tracks are.

Anyone know of a better mapping/printing solution?? Seems to me there ought to be some kind of printing feature in Trainz.

Add this line to your trainzoptions.txt.

-surveyorfov=65

The default value is 55. The larger the number the wider the field of view. This does reduce the distance one can zoom in for detail work so don't go overboard.

Thanks, I'll try that. I can always set it up when I need it, then take it down again for normal use. Good tip, THANKS.

To get roads to show you could try and use a discreet texture and place it under the road spline, and then go into the minimap and you would be able to see where the road(s) are:wave:

In surveyor type alt-fly to look at a larger area. Works in TRS2004.

Tried it (2006). You do get further out, but low to the ground, once I'm in "alt-fly" mode, I cannot change the view to look down, only straight a head, so that's no option. Thanks anyway, never heard of that one.

In TRS2006 the "alt-fly" command does not work like it does in TRS2004, it gives you an alt-walk like view. In TRS2006 try "alt-u". Use the page up and page down keys to look down more vertically.

What we really need is a simple in-game way of changing the camera view angle and or height. This has been suggested long ago in the suggestion box but has probably been forgotten in favor of keeping the latest TC game incompatible with all previous Trainz installations. ;)

ain't that the truth!

Just tried Alt+u, and that works a lot better, Thanks a lot George:Y:

It still really sucks though, that it's so impossible to get any kind of mapping from a layout, SIGH.
