I've got a few questions about functionality in Driver...

So today I was doing a free session in Schwaninger Land. I picked a train that had a full load of coal. It took a while scouring the map to see where I could drop it off and of course the path was blocked. I just switched points and drove to the next red signal. The process did raise some questions.

  • Is there a way to easily see what industries are on the map? (a list perhaps, ideally with a click to location.)
  • Is there a way to see how far the open road in front of your train extends? I'm thinking a different coloured track in map view so you can zoom in to the end of the path and see what the problem is.
  • Is there a way to change the language on the industries or do I need to learn German? Not a big issue as German is pretty self evident. Kohlenbunker, Brauerei, Leichtmetallwerk, etc. Just might make it easier if there's no easy way to identify the location of target industries.
TIA

You did not indicate which version of Trainz you have.

Trainz Plus has a new feature, still under development, called TLR (Trainz Living Railroad) which makes identifying available industries much easier. But, to me at least, its best feature (amongst several) is its ability to show the planned path of each train, as shown in the image below.

The green and red path lines shown below (there are other colours for different purposes) are optional - they can be switched on/off. Red shows locos only (in this case the possible reverse path) and green for the current path of the active consist.

You can choose from a number of settings:-
  1. No path display at all
  2. Short path display (to just past the next set junction) on focus consist only
  3. Long path display to the next set destination on focus consist only
  4. Show paths for all trains
  5. Show paths on junction change only
On the language question, I do not know. Trainz can be customised to a large number of languages but the asset creator has to add the language option when the asset is created
German is pretty self evident. Kohlenbunker, Brauerei, Leichtmetallwerk, etc.
I am glad you think so - that looks like "double Dutch" to me :ROFLMAO:

TRS22PE.

Not sure if it has those features but that sure is what I'd like. I did see a green track once but given my almost total lack of knowledge of the sim at this point it could have been anything...

I did see a green track once
It is also in TRS22PE.

  1. In Driver open the Display Menu from the top of the screen (the icon looks like a Video Display unit)
  2. Open the Track Path Display option
This will show the path display options in two sections.
The top section has three options - select one.
  • No path display at all
  • Short path display (to just past the next set junction) on focus consist only
  • Long path display (to the next set destination) on focus consist only
The bottom section has two check boxes - select none, one or both.
  • Show paths for all trains
  • Show paths on junction change only

You could add "<kuid:160293:10029> ExTrainz Manager-TANE SP2" to the session rules. This will display the industries, the products and the trains that carry them. It was created by Ethan Bertch in 2014 for my UMR MPS session. Then it was updated by Trev999 for me in 2017.

Sounds perfect. I'll get onto it.
