ZecRail Trainz Content

A couple of in-game (in T:ANE) screenshots of the M class. I've actually done a bit of work on the loco mesh, although you can't see the changes in these pics. I've added the two tie rods between the outer edges of the spectacle plates, and the damper lever on the fireman's side.

M210 rests in the platform at Lilydale ready for departure with a morning passenger service to Ringwood.

TANE%202015-02-02%2023-45-42-68.jpg

A short while later, the M is seen blasting up the grade out of Lilydale, as the morning sun lights up it's side tank.

Aidyn, the whistle is operated by the 'handle' to the right of, and slightly above, the regulator in the last cab render. A lot of early locos, particularly tank locos, actually had a rotating valve with a rod going into the cab (the F class is one such loco, the M is another).

Hi All
Apologies for the lack of updates lately.

The last few weeks have been spent mapping, and adding a few more details as needed, to the interior view. Thankfully, the mapping is now finished.

This is only a 'draft' bake, so is very grainy and has a few issues. It will look a lot cleaner, and have a few changes, once complete :)

Looking good already Zec, makes me want to do some 'upside down' modelling :) .

Have to do a few week site visits first though (rattles piggy bank).

Hi All
Having completed the Healesville route, I've decided to do another (somewhat longer!) route for Trainz now. Namely, the Cudgewa line :) Albeit set in approximately 1930-1950.

To this end, I have started at Shelley, the highest station in Victoria. I then plan to work down the hill to Cudgewa first; then work toward Wodonga.

S301_20150303_0002.jpg

DD 586 works it's way up grade toward Shelley with the second part of a loaded livestock special.

S301_20150303_0003.jpg

Arriving at Shelley, alongside the first portion of the livestock special.

S301_20150303_0004.jpg

Having combined the two parts of the train, the DD sits ready for departure toward Wodonga.

S301_20150303_0005.jpg

As DD586 works it's train away from Shelley, DD 584 sits in the turntable road waiting to return to Cudgewa.

S301_20150303_0006.jpg

Although Shelley is the highest station in Victoria, the line actually climbs for a short distance out of Shelley, with DD586 seen here about to crest the grade before the long drop down to Koetong.

Great job Zec!

Why am I happy? The workshops at newport have been damaged by fires, it has been reported that a 1890's piece of rolling stock was damaged, let's just hope it is not Y 419. :'(

Cheers:(

I would hope that's sarcasm... and for a Steamrail Volunteer you seem rather ill-informed (though I guess your post is a little old at this point). It has been reported that no locomotives have been damaged (in fact, none of Steamrail's stuff, per say, was damaged) so Y112 is okay.
It has been reported that, unfortunately, Elecrail's Dogbox/Swingdoor set (4 cars) were damaged, though there is still a lot of speculation so best hold off on any details until we hear some official news.
As usual this probably isn't the place for this discussion, maybe best have posted that in your Australian Chat thread...

I did get a report on the incident later today, the frames on 107M and 137M are in terrible condition due to the fire, all the woodwork is gone, it is down to the bare frame, the same goes with all the other carriages.

You will have to say bye to 107M and 137M, they are cactus. :(

Cheers.

Fire is the best friend and worst enemy of anything which has its acquaintance... As for this progress on the Cudgewa line, it looks fantastic!

Hi All
A little more progress on the M class cab view :)

new-vr-steamer-68.jpg

Finally finished baking everything, unless any issues turn up once it's all animated (hopefully I've caught them all!). Also added a lot of textured details to everything, although I'm still spotting more to add. Will then look at what I can, and can't, add as 3D 'overlays' onto the textures to ensure it looks right, and what will suffice with a normals map.

Hi All
First up, have been away for a few days in hospital with pneumonia. Not fun, and I don't recommend it! I was glad to have my laptop bought in, and managed to finish texture mapping my T van.

As to the M class cab, as there's only one cab view in the scene at a time it can be quite detailed. In this case, the cab view is fairly reasonable in terms of poly count, although it will go up a little more as I finish it off. This one should also be a little more efficient than the DD class' cab view as well.

Cab views however don't have, or need, LOD since you'll never move far away from them. The exterior meshes will, however, have full LOD when it's all finished :)

Hi All
Thanks FSF, feeling better every day thankfully :)

Over the last few days (when my computer hasn't been doing other things!) I have been doing a bit of weathering on my M class' cab. Mostly just subtle dirt and scratches; as well as some 'warping' of metal. Locos of this era (1880s-1910s) were kept extremely clean, often almost mirror like (not quite modeled on mine, as Trainz doesn't currently capture that look too well!), so my goal has been to just make the cab look like I believe it would part way through a shift :)

So far, only the 'shell' has been done, I haven't yet started on the controls :)

Extreme detail Zec! Can't wait for its release, is there any projects you are restarting/beginning after you complete this?

Cheers

Hi Aidyn
I have a few projects that are in the background, or on hold, as well as a few new ones that I have inspiration for in future :) However, I'm not going to say too much about whats next as that'll depend on what I decide to work on!

Finally got the textures 'finished' (well, I may need to tweak them further :) ), including normals maps, specular maps, and env maps. Decided it was time to get it all exported into Trainz, albeit as a 'non functional' cab view to start with :)

First two shots are in TS12, as I used this to test it was all working to start with :)

And one from the latest build of T:ANE. Seems to be a fair few normals issues, so will need to investigate these :)

Now I can move on to making everything functional!
