As this forum is truly worldwide, I think this is a great place to poll: What kind of internet service do you get today? I'd appreciate some input. Below is a list of speed test sites that you can use if you're not sure. I haven't checked any of them myself; what I'm trying to do is get a sense of what broadband/performance internet those outside the U.S. get. Thanks.

Hi.

I live in Queensland, Australia, and my speed is around 2-3 mb/second, at least in the tests. Just note that I share the internet with my Mum. But to me it is really fast, web pages load in around one second.

Perth, Australia (which is where my ISP is headquartered), and my speed came in at about 5.64 mbs. Perth's connection speeds are notoriously slow (the sooner the NBN gets here the better).

Lol, Perth's just behind in general... I've got the same as this guy :)

@Big_b, used to live up the hill from u in Moss Vale.. Small world

Never bothered to look before but just downloaded a load of stuff off the DLS. Best speed I hit was 401 Mbs.

Does it really matter? As long as you have more than .5 g /sec (512kb/sec) it should allow you to do whatever you need to do.

AT&T here in Dayton @ 5.1 download/.74 upload. This is limited by how much I am willing to pay them, BTW.

I'm just curious what level of service people outside the U.S. get. AFAIK, service here is great if you're in a metropolitan area, but go to rural and even semi-rural communities and you'll find little if any broadband service.

P.S. Thanks to everyone who has replied; more replies are welcome. :)

Virgin Cable UK - just done a couple of tests: about 42-45 Mbps download, 3.17 Mbps upload. Not bad seeing I'm paying for the 30 meg service! :hehe:

You aren't kidding. I live in a rural area, and the only "broadband" available is a Satellite provider (HughesNet). At its fastest, I might get 1.5 Mbps down and 250 Kbps up - and I'm limited to 350MB per day before the speed drops to almost nothing ("fair access policy"). I can't use mobile broadband because I can't get a cell signal where I live.
