Your Generic So/NorCal Route - ATSF & SP - Wolett Subdivision - Belmont Pass

Not enough to keep the tires inflated. :hehe: Anyway that spot looks top-notch! Like one of Cali's many "1% neighborhoods", with swimming pools and luxury cars and stuff. May I ask who built those homes?

Thanks, Nick! :)

Arraial is the one who made those homes, hence the shout out in my last post. ;)

Unfortunately, that is the only rich folks neighborhood I can fit into Kayla, CA's streets...

A random shot... This tunnel I am using can barely fit a tri-level autorack... So I decided to have some fun. ;)

Now I have to find a way to make this a little more subliminal...

Quick heads-up for you Blake. I have learned the hard way autoracks are a poor clearance gauge; double-stacked hi-cube containers are even higher. Almost all the bridges on my route are due for some expensive rehabilitation because my stacktrains are barely clearing them.

:o

Update...

Finally, an update! School starts this coming Monday, which means that I have to go to bed earlier, which also means that updates won't be as frequent.

Just for the hell of it, I decided to make a video. In this video, is a demonstration of the "Hotbox" Feature.

Update...

Well, I got some more done on the route, but nothing to really show off at this point. I added some texturing near Kayla, CA. I have also decided that near the end of the route, it will turn to a triple track line. I don't know exactly how I am going to run the trains on that portion of the line, but I have quite a bit of time to figure that out.

Tonight's video is of a UP TOFC train from Kayla to Belmont, CA led by two UP SD40T-2's which I picked up from RRMODS.com earlier today. The only thing I do not like about them is the lack of ARN and the 1 part horn it comes with. I changed out the horn before recording this video. But, the detail on these units is absolutely spectacular, and I also picked it up for 3 bucks, so that is pretty much a steal.

Now to the video...

Fix your yellow headlights, LOL!

Update...

I have been so consumed with school for the past 5 weeks.. I have had very little time to work in Trainz. The time that I do have, I barely get anything done.

However, considering the long weekend that I have since I am sick, I figured I would get some work done on the route.

-

I have FINALLY figured out the tree situation. I downloaded a bunch of fir trees made by Clam1952, I believe it is. There is a huge difference in FPS, and it looks a million times better. Now that I have all this figured out, I can finally start cruising towards getting the DEMO out to a few people... Only lord knows when that'll be, considering I only work with the little time I have every other weekend, but things should be moving a little faster now.

Now onto the shots...

I finally got back to the route over the weekend as it gave me a golden opportunity to run Dave Snow's new Genset. The only problem was that I didn't have any place to run it to...

Then I remembered the lumber yard that got released to CC Members recently... So I ran down the line to Belmont and found the perfect place for an industry. However, this in itself offered engineering and operation difficulties that had to be fixed.

The trains on this part of the line do right hand running, and I couldn't have a train going back on the wrong side of the tracks. Also, I couldn't be holding up traffic when switching this industry, as there is very little space to switch on the industry lead, which is absolutely necessary.

What I did was I added a crossover which allowed trains to do momentary left hand running when coming down from Kayla to move past the industry if it is being switched, preventing an hour and a half delay.

Another thing I did was I added a wye which allowed for easy turning of the train.

All of this works like a charm and I am very satisfied with how it turned out. I plan to make a session called the "Belmont Local" that will show you the ropes of this very simple, yet interactive job.

If I lost any of you, then here are some screenshots to better describe what I am talking about.

I also did some random detailing along the length of the narrows between Kayla and Belmont, CA.

I am looking forward to hearing your suggestions and comments! :)

Today we caught ATSF B40-8W 517 switching 5 centerbeams out at Belmont.

Waiting for the switches to be thrown.

With the train fully loaded and turned, the Belmont Local waits for clearance from dispatch to leave Belmont and head back to Kayla.
