your favorite steam locomotive

Here's my list (I'm not doing this in any particular order):

Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum 2-8-0 #610 (the one that introduced me to steam)
Norfolk & Western #611 and #1218
Pere Marquette #1225 (Both the prototype version and the 'Polar Express' version)
A Norfolk & Western Y6b that looks more prototypical than the one included in Trainz 12
A Southern Ps-4 (Virtual-Motive-Division offers one, but it's payware)
Union Pacific #3985
Union Pacific #844
Southern Pacific #4449
Santa Fe #3751 and Santa Fe #2926
Milwaukee Road #261
Norfolk & Western M Class 4-8-0 #475

Western Maryland Shay #6
Iowa Interstate's two Ex-China Rail QJ 2-10-2s
Southern 2-8-0 #154
Louisville & Nashville 4-6-2 #152

My favorite american steamer by far is NKP 587. My favorite british steamers are the A4 Pacific's. Did anyone notice that the DLS 587 looks more like a Lima locomotive ? The 587 is a Baldwin locomotive.

Not sure which, but it's definitely a 4-6-0. Either a Baldwin 10-12-D, Hunslet 4-6-0T, Victorian Railways class DD, Southern Pacific's "Slim Princess" Narrow Gauge, or V&T #25.

V&T 25-27 are pretty cute, but if I had to choose I'd probably go with SPNG No. 18 personally...

I saw a Southern Pacific T-1(another 4-6-0) fire train brass model at the V&TRRHS conference today and fell in love with it at once. It's got a whaleback tender like the SPNG engines, a water pump like the V&T Nos. 9 and 21, a maze of extra feedwater pipes and hoses, and to top it all off, two fire hoses.

1522 will always be close to my heart, since I chased it all over Missouri with my Grandfather when I was a kid. Love the steamboat whistle. Good memories of railfanning with him.

MoPac had 2 classes of steam that I quite like. The P-73 Pacifics were the first I learned about, and just seem majestic to me. (Apologies for the image size)

There was also Molly the Mallet, the only 2-8-8-2 on the Missouri Pacific, and quite an interesting story. THe most powerful locomotive (at the time) on the railroad was used as a hump switcher. http://www.trainweb.org/screamingeagle/mp4000.html

Ah yes, Molly the Malley...there was an article about her in one of the Classic Trains Issues this year (I think it was the spring one...can't recall at the moment for some reason). Apparently she was fitted with double tender boosters at one time...on 3-axle tender trucks! good lord, what a sight that must have been to see in action.
