Your Favorite Locomotive Type?

My favorites would be:

NYC 4-6-4
SP GS-4 4449 4-8-4
UP 3985 4-6-6-4
Strasburg 90 2-10-0
N&W 611 4-8-4
Milwaukee 261 4-8-4

Here you go.

As for my favorite loco I have to say the Class: C Shay by Lima be more specific West Side Shay #12 built in April 1926 for the Swayne Lumber Co., it remained under Swayne ownership until 1940. From 1940 until 1969 it was operated by the WSLC (West Side Lumber Company). Even there its shop number is 3302, this loco is not the same size as her sisters. In-fact it cares 1000 gallons less of oil/water than WSLC #8.

Today, she sits at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Its sad, but I new all of this by heat.... You would think that I would spend my time doing better things.......

Cheers,
JRT

Well, since I'm into Canadian stuff now days, my favorite locomotive would have to be the SD40-2W. The GP38-2W and the GP40-2LW rank behind it on my list.

-Skylar:)

I agree. The SD40-2w & GP40-2w's are the best locos Canadian National ever brought & they look good in the 'zebra' schemes, back when they was new.

PRR Duplexes live forever!!

Also faves: 2-10-10-2, 4-12-2, 4-8-8-4, or any darn articulated steam out there!

..RR.. (My line of the day: Best there is, was, and ever will be!!)

Anything from the Great British Rail days of the 1980's, and anything from any year from steam to diesel on the Great Western Railway (including the Network Southeast stock)

My favorite locomotive "type" would have to be the 4-6-0 ten wheelers. No matter what gauge, or what railroad, I have always loved these old gals. This is proboly due to the fact the the local steam engine is an ex SP 4-6-0. Nonetheless, I have always liked how a railroad can make these engines look. So yea, "Ten Wheelers" are my favorite locomotive type.

the 4-4-0 american, because of how she looks and the clean lines it has coming out of the engine shop!;)

americans diesel's are world's best locomotive
from their power .reliability ,and beauty especially sd series locomotives
