yard limet signs

They're like a "border" around a train yard. Most railroads impose speed limits (very slow) inside their yards. These signs show when the driver has to slow down (entering) and can speed up (exiting).

Thanks bill, That what i thoght.
You know what would be nice is a asset that could count down the cars/wagon as it backs into a sidding. Where the sidding will only hold a number of cars the asset could be set to start at that amount.
Thank again

On a lot of siding signs, there is a number under the marker. That number is how many "standard" sized cars will fit on the siding. If you saw the movie "Unstoppable", those numbers are used to show that Denzel Washington's train picked up extra cars it didn't want/need and, later, couldn't fit into a siding 'on the fly' and got truncated by the runaway.

There should be some Limit of Shunt signs which are built in content? I'm pretty sure Yard Limit and Limit of Shunt sign serve the same purpose?

I remember seeing some concrete posts that read 5-cars, 10-cars, etc. along what is now a single-tracked line. At that point on the line, there used to be 2 or 3 tracks including a small yard for the old mills that were there once.

lLimit of Shunt in the UK means how far a shunting movement can proceed on the main line. Less common are boards with numbers on which are more likely to be found on curves. e.g. 10, 20 which mean 10 slu's, 20 slu,s ec. SLU =Standard wagon length and 1 SLU = 22 feet.These are a guide to the driver so if the shunt was 50 SLU's the driver would stop at the 50 SLU post. Yard Limit does not sound like a UK term. We consider the yard to finish at the Exit signal.

I remember that the MidWestCentral route had yards with stubs that had trackmarks for 5,10,15 etc cars. I don't think there was a visible objects for them.

On American railroads which used train orders and clearance cards, the yard limit signs indicated that the train could move about the yard as needed to get its job done without receiving additional orders from the dispatcher. This included moving on or across the mainline within the yard limit area as long as the schedule indicated the line was free from any on coming trains. To leave the area defined by the yard limit signs required clearance from the dispatcher.

Do a search with these parameters:

Category = track objects
Name = yard limit

This produced one built-in in TS12 and one on the DLS. Change the name to see what else might be out there.
