x64 upgrade at some point?

Hi All,

Just found myself wondering if such an upgrade will be free for previous owners of the 32-bit version if it ever comes around. In my growing experience with x64 operating systems, I've found that about 50% of software developers offer the x64 software freely when it becomes available, while the other 50% charge for the privilege of getting the x64 version (some even charge more than the 32-bit version...). I'm not really sure whether Auran is going to offer it in the first place, but seeing as how its where most new tech is going these days, I wouldn't be suprised. That being said, do you all think that this will be a free upgrade for those of us who have the x64 systems, or will Auran expect a rebill?

Thanks,
Greg

It depends on what is involved. Basically according to tomshardware there is no performance increase moving to 64 bits.

Greg,

I don't think you'll see a 64 bit version of Trainz until Trainz supports DirectX 10 in the yet to be named Trainz X. In the case of many programs offering a 64 bit version it is as simple as using a 64 bit compiler but in many other cases much more is needed. Hence the variant in policy and price. Cost versus return is always going to be the determining factor. As more users have 64 bit Operating Systems then it becomes more likely to happen.

Why, I though Auran needed the revenue! Given that mentality they would be foolish not to charge for anything they are able to!
