Would this be of any use with Trainz?

I came across this at a SimCity forum
http://ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php

From the description:

This very little tool patches x86 executables in order to let them have 4GB (instead of only 2) of virtual memory on x64 platforms. This tool comes very handy for applications which need a great amount of virtual memory like games, 3D renderization, multimedia etc. To gain these 2GB, you just have to use this tool to patch the executable (*.exe file) of the software you want to have these additional GBs of virtual memory. It can be used by clicking on it and choosing the file or through command line (e.g.: "4gb_patch file.exe"). It automatically creates a backup copy of the original executable.

Would this be of any help for Trainz?

I would not advise using said methods if using TS12, as it will prevent patching unless you revert the executable files prior to patching.

It will help, subject to my advice regarding patching. In fact, I'm testing it at the moment, so will be able to see if it makes much difference.

Hi boc61,

I am using the patch and it does help. I tried it as I was using Roy Joostens CPR route. When it comes time to patch TS12 you only need to remove the trainz.exe file and rename the backup .exe to Trainz.exe. The backup is the origional file prior to adding the 4GB patch file and resides next to the Trainz.exe in the folders for TS12. I did this when patching, up to Hotfix 2 & 3, and had no problems.
I would suggest to backup your userdata folder as someone had an issue when installing the 4GB patch.n however I only know of one case.

Installing is easy. when asked just locate and direct it to the TS12 .exe file and thats it.

Hope this helps, andrew.

Good Morning All
We definitely do not recommend any tools that modify the internal files in Trainz.

It should also be noted that Trainz is 'large address aware' already, and as such can make some use of the extra resources available under a 64bit operating system. However, as it is still a 32bit program, there is still a limitation on how much it can actually use.

Zec, thank-you so very much for your quick help, I did get the fix from Shane, did you get my computer specs and if you have anything else to help me I sure would appreciate it, I really thought I had a bug in the beginning, JD
