Worth it to upgrade video card for this system?

Hi Everyone,


I upgraded my motherboard and memory a while back and am thinking about upgrading my video card. I have a few questions I would like your input on:

1) would it be worth it based on the system I have now (I know it's a bit older)

O.S. Win XP 32 bit
Memory 2 GB DDR2
nVidia 7600 GT (256 MB)
Intel Core Duo E4500 @ 2.2 GHz
Gigabyte Technology Motherboard?

2) what video card would be ideal in terms of bang for buck?

3) what would be better for trainz? nVidia or ATI? I hear nVidia is better...is there anyone with an ATI who has issues out there? I run 2010 SP3. Price is a factor for me (looking to spend no more than $300 for a new vid card).

Your best bet probably would be upgrading your CPU to a quad-core and getting a $60-$70 video card. That'll keep you well within budget. You might even have enough left over to get another 2Gb of memory.

RRSignal nailed it.
It is my understanding that, with TS2010, CPU is more important than video card. Changing between NVidea and ATI is more difficult than it should be. Driver issues. I sugest a GT220. I am very happy with mine. Very low power consumption for the speed. More RAM might be a good idea.

Thanks for your replies guys. I guess I'll have to wait a year and a bit (at least I'll max out the usage of my current rig). I can't justify upgrading again when I just did a bit of that a few months ago. @@
