Working route - Missing config

Here's one I can't find any mention of previously.

On my current route, I can edit it and drive it. The one thing I can't do, is send it to anyone. As it's so large, I can't send the cdp file via my e-mail. I have managed to upload the cdp to a file sharing provider but the route does not export at the other end.

I've sent the route before in it's constituent parts but find I am unable to repeat this. When I open the route in explorer, there are no files present in the folder and I get an error telling me the config is missing. I don't understand how the route even works without a config.

Am I being stupid here or is there something seriously wrong?

XP rules out any UAC screwiness, you probably need to delete the subfolders from the \AURAN\TS2010\UserData\editing\ folder and try again. Double check you're actually editing the one you think you're editing.

As for file sharing, worst trouble with a CDP is when uploading or downloading the transfer protocol often sees a false "end of file" character and stops, so you get a truncated file. What I do when emailing a CDP is add the CDP to a WinZip file first - it doesn't compress a CDP much, but since the CDP is contained inside a ZIP file it's less likely to get chopped off since WinZip has built in CRC Checksum to prevent that.

Have you archived the route at any point? If so this might work.

Check the archiver pane, and click on the little arrow > to see if the route is listed there. You may find when you remove it you will be able to create a cdp again.

@ sniper - Okay, I've emptied the editing folder. I'll try the zipping method too.

@ stovepipe - Nowt in the archiver.

@ clam - Definitely not a copy, I saved a brand new route and session with a unique date name.

I'll report back on the results of sniper's advice.

Thanks to all of you.

Okay, I managed to create a fresh version of the route, packaged it into a cdp then zipped it. The people at the other end are still unable to complete the import.

I'm going to do a test route with a single board and some bits and bobs to check it's the route as opposed to CMP where the issue lies

Would anyone happen to have another suggestion please?

Cheers,
pfx

Anything relating to the route in the Trash folder, not necessarily the route but any assets relating to it.

May also be worth looking at jetlog.txt and see if anything is getting flagged in there.

I'm thinking maybe the problem is being caused by an asset or script that has or has developed a fault?

Another thought is anything doing on access scans that could be removing files when you open for edit in Explorer? That might account for the missing config.

I cleared out the trash folder last night so definitely nowt there.

I'm trying to think what scripted assets I actually have on the route. Signals are the only thing as far as I'm aware.

As for the access scans, I'm not sure I follow you there. How would I check it?

Thanks.

Some AV's and anti-malware programs scan on file access that includes MS Security essentials, need to check any options to exclude files and folders from scanning sometimes called Realtime scanning. Not all programs tell you they have blocked anything other than maybe in a log file.

See if I got this straight, the missing files are happening only after uploading and downloading? What file sharing site are you using?

No, the config appears to be missing before I've even packed the route up. I use drop box and I tried zipping it prior to uploading with no joy.

A little more to the puzzle. I've checked a couple of other routes on my PC and all have the following files if I open them in Explorer.

config
mapfile.bmk
mapfile.gnd
mapfile.lyr
mapfile.obs
mapfile.trc
mapfile.trk

My problem route shows nothing at all in Explorer.

Better double check that you're not looking at one route in the game and a different one in content mangler. I've had autosave turned off for so long I forgot, what's the name of the autosave generated route?

I suggest saving it under a different name like whatever route Test and see if it appears correct in explorer under that.

The more I think about this the more impossible it sounds. Any asset will not commit without a KUID number, the KUID number is in the config.txt file, no config file no asset. Something must be emptying the folder as it's being opened for edit in explorer is the only thing I can figure. Run a scan for spyware / trojans / viruses lately?

Hi guys.

I run a clean up on the PC every week. I would like to think that something untoward hasn't escaped that process.

As for autosave, it's off so definitely nothing to do with that. I also tried saving it under different names and the same thing occurs.

One interesting issue I've found since my last post is that I came across a much older version of the route and on opening it in explorer, all the necessary files are present. I ran out of time so didn't get any further than that, but I'm going to investigate this further and report back.

It still won't solve this curious issue though...

Monsterous. It's a 3500+ board route but I've managed to send it before by sending the individual parts instead of a cdp file.

Think you may have hit a size problem how big is the cdp? I'm thinking it could be a not enough memory to open it?

Tried cloning it in CM?
