WIP (Warning, Big Pics)

Progress continues.

Those are some very nice screenshots. This is a beautiful route.

Thank you for the kind words.

Progress continues, a little slower then I would like to move at.

I plan for the whole route to have highly detailed texture blending close to the tracks.

Yes, I am back with more WIP pics.

I am now working on the town of Fillmore.

As keeping with my original strategy all static trucks and cars are in their own session layer, it will allow for more flexibility with sessions to be developed.

I been spending a lot of time playing iRacing lately, but managed to put in some work on the railroad.

Just needs weedz and a few final touches here.

Decided to work on one of the hills (small mountain, whatever you want to call it). I'm happy with it so far, still needs much work though.

Haven't really touched the terrain surrounding the buildings yet.

Made it a little further down the line. I need to quit playing all other games until I finish this thing.

Work goes slow because there is a ton of texture blending going on.

But as long as the results are good I guess it's worth it.

I know how that feels William. It's been ages since I turned on my Xbox or fired up Flight Simulator. Anyway I must say your trackside textures and grass are extremely well done (best example). Take all the time you need (don't rush!) because you're doing it right. :Y:

I'm not sure if you've stumbled across this issue yet, but fixed track turnouts may cause issues further down the line (pun intended) especially when your route starts getting heavy. I learned the hard way the mess they can cause after undo operations; bizarre spline behaviour, random derailments and disconnected/unconnectable spline points. Ended up deleting them all and had to re-lay alot of track. But if it works for you then that's great.

Cheerio,
Nicholas

Thanks,

I've learned all about the perils of the animated junctions. Many of them have already been broken and fixed. I no longer use undo (mostly because of the terrain spikes it causes).

Love the mountain scene. Awesome work!

Thanks,

I'm putting some crazy work into this route. The goal is to create the ultimate smallish size route (18 miles long) with many interactive industries for multiplayer fun. It's got the basics like coal and fossil fuels and more fun stuff like hot dogs, pizzas, cell phones, maybe even haggis and many other things.

Imagine 5 towns with long passenger platforms, each town has an MIN, plus many other industries. There are plenty of commodities to deliver.

It's a multiplayer dream route. The goal is to deliver the feel of a massive model railroad. And so there is some compression, and you can see the edges.

But with much to do I don't think keeping things close to the track will be a problem.

Every route is a compromise, and this is no different.

This is probably, without doubt, hands down, the best approach to route building in Trainz for the maximum amount of fun.

That mill scene is looking really detailed! Awesome work!
One recommendation I would like to put in is you could use arriels (not entirely sure how to spell it anymore) Semis and greyhound trailers, They look really good compared to the ones in use. They can all be found by searching US on the DLS.
You don't have to use them if you wouldn't like, but they are very good models.
