Windows 8 Beta

I have just installed Windows 8 Beta and Trainz 2010 seems to work , except that OpenGL is not recognised.
The Forum will need attention as well because it would not accept my login details.
Has anyone tried it as well?

That is to be expected from a beta version of Windows. Hardware manufacturers haven't had much time to try and get their hardware working for the new version, and it could well be that it has a new version of IE, which VBulletin may not be supporting yet.

I would avoid installing a new operating system until it is out of beta. If you can, revert back to the original OS (should be Win7).

Please tell me that you did not upgrade your main or only computer to a new BETA operating system?
Your only supposed to to use it as an alternative OS temporarily to help find the big bugs and multitude of errors, that's what BETA Tester means, not to try and run your home PC and games/software/sims and what ever to be a "I had it first" person.
No software producers would be able to build their new or updated programs yet as the Windows software is still in it's infancy stage as regards BETA testing.

From what i read the new Windows 8 was developed for the new era of touch screens, though it will still work with mouse and keyboard.

Oh brother! So in the future, when they finally do away with the mouse and keyboard commands, I'll have to lean over my keyboard and reach up and touch the screen of my monitor, instead of sitting back and relaxing, using the mouse & keyboard to create my routes and assets. Doesn't look like progress to me.

Cheers,

Dave

You can still sit back and relax - just use a long stick to reach the touch screen.:)

Like Deano says, I hope this wasn't your main machine. I've played a little bit with the preview edition, and wasn't too pleased with the interface. That "Metro" thing is like a giant smart phone!

From what I've read, the interface is just as useable with a mouse and keyboard as well as with touch-centric devices. The reason for this is to unify the same platform across everything that Microsoft supports, so if you happen to have a little PDA or smart phone with Windows 8, this will connect in the same manner as a desktop PC running the same OS. The other thing too is your login is the same across everything, and uses a Windows Live account. With Windows 8, if you update your desktop, the same updates will be reflected on your mobile devices when the account is synchronized. This is a very interesting approach to things, and some of the experts are saying that for once Microsoft will be one-upping Apple for a change.

See: Punishment, Glutton for. :hehe:

LOL.

That's why I wait until SP 2 comes out for new stuff like this. I've been burned too much in the past on new versions of a lot of things, although I had no choice in updating either, and I had to for job reasons. I refer to user-created errors as self inflicted problems. :)

The new Windows is on a seperate partition for testing.
I like to know what future hardware and software will not work.
Try to find the shutdown button? . It is well hidden

Either way, we are unable to help as not enough people have had experience with Win8 and Trainz. Our apologies. If you need help, I suggest going to a Win8 forum and asking there.

Reinstalling the latest Nvidia driver has solved the problems including PEV Mesh viewer.
Running my route however showed a signifant loss in performance.

Remember this is still BETA, meaning a lot of the glaring bugs haven't been completely washed out yet. You should report these to Microsoft. In the end, you may actually get a free copy of the consumer relase when it goes to manufacturing. I did this a few years ago with Windows XP and Windows 7.

The same people who: Threw out their Atari-Pong/MissleCommand to get video games, and threw out all their LP's to get CD's, and threw out all their VHS tapes to get DVD's, and threw out their WEB TV's to get PC's, and threw out their analog TV's to get Plasma TV's, and threw out their Plasma TV's to get LED TV's ... :hehe: (which are in fact, just a LCD screen, backlit by LED's).
