Windows 10 Beta Testers - Here's how to upgrade to Build 9879

If you have recently installed Windows 10 Insider Preview from the iso (before Microsoft had removed them in preparation for the new build expected to come out), you may be finding yourself stuck on Build 9841 like I was. I was unable to force it to update to Build 9879 as the PC settings app would tell me no new builds were available.
I had installed all windows updates previously to checking for a new build, for this was a requirement for Windows 8 to be upgraded to 8.1. In this case, an update "breaks" the build update system. The solution is to edit a value in the registry.

!!!ATTENTION - THIS USER CLAIMS NO RESPONSIBILITY TO THE OUTCOME FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW. IF IT BREAKS, YOU GET TO KEEP BOTH PIECES!!!
DO NOT ATTEMPT WHAT IS LISTED BELOW UNLESS YOU HAVE A THOROUGH UNDERSTANDING WITH REGEDIT.EXE
FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS BELOW WITH CAUTION AND PAYING ATTENTION TO DETAILS.

Open regedit.exe and navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability
Change BranchName's value to fbl_release
Restart PC Settings app and check for a new build
You should be downloading the latest update.

Apx. 15 minutes later, you'll be greeted with the request to restart (in my case), restart and you'll soon be greeted with build 9879 if all went well. Enjoy!

If you belong to the insider program, there was not need to edit your registry. You could download the .iso file and do a fresh install. Check the Insider Hub application for the link.

Granted you should have backups of your data anyway before performing any upgrades or installs, especially of an operating system.
