Wilmington and Western Railroad Project

The W&W only goes from the CSX junction below Greenbank to Hockessin. The tracks in Chadd's Ford were the Reading's Wilmington and Northern branch between Birdsboro and Wilmington via Coatesville. Only the Coatesville-Wilmington section remains, it is now operated by the East Penn Rwy. who also operates the former Octoraro from Chadd's Ford to Nottingham, PA. a former PRR line. Unfortuntely, no excursions there, when the Reading line was operated by the Brandywine Valley in the 90's they ran excursions from Northbrook to South Modena (Coatesville) and Chadd's Ford but the excursions ended when the BV quit and it went to East Penn who have little interest in passenger trains except a very rare occasion like a train I rode from Pennsburg, PA to Vera Cruz, PA on a former Reading branch operated by East Penn in Oct 2007 they ran two weekends with NJT comet coaches, a parlor car, and Reading F units that were stored in Pocopson, PA on that same Reading branch from Wilmington, now they're in Strasburg at the PA RR Museum. They were once used on Philly-Reading and Philly-Bethlehem trains along with Budd RDC's until those trains were cut end of June 1981 for Bethlehem, and Reading a little later in the same year. The coaches that were used in the Reading (then in SEPTA red-white-blue paint 1977-1981) push-pull train are at a RR museum in CT. One coach was on the Houastonic RR in CT or MA sitting unused and it was scrapped a while back. W&W did run some steam train excursions from Greenville, DE to Chadd's Ford and toward Kennett Square and possibly up toward Coatesville from Chadd's Ford in 1986 I think not sure if they did them other years. W&W also ran a steam train and coach and caboose to the Wilmington Amtrak station on occasion for display but not sure if they do that anymore.

My super layout is two layouts by the same creator linked together with my own DEM to expand it. The full Reading and Northern layout by Roon between Hamburg-Jim Thorpe and branches, (released through special download link) and NS Reading Line by Roon (uslw.com) from Reading-Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton-Phillipsburg. I added a DEM to Phillipsburg to extend it to Manville, NJ and added a DEM between Hamburg and North Reading, PA and a DEM from Reading-Philly, Hellertown-Ambler (might extend it to Philly), and the Lehigh Gorge north of Jim Thorpe to Waverly, NY. And, Scranton-Delaware Water Gap. It's going to be a big file size. I made some changes to Roon's portions of the layout, adding on to unfinished areas in the Reading and Northern and changing some things in the NS layout like adding buildings, etc. replaced a few RR bridges with more correct ones.

I have a question, couldn't you use the font that W&W uses on the tender like this http://lh4.ggpht.com/_Ugq9IKOMBTI/RjjjyVFWRpI/AAAAAAAAAbk/n0JvJZ4rJUw/IMG_0280.JPG not sure what the name of the font is.

Link doesn't work, and I decided for now to go with Century Schoolbook. But I may change it if you or anyone else can shed some light on the name of the font the WWRR uses.

I have the Boonton coach reskinned in W&W, but I would have to ask Paul if I could send the coach to you. It has full interior that you can ride in with several different views. Magicland's don't even have interiors. Those are the poor man's coaches. They look great on the outside, but no inside! Inside it's the outside texture repeated. There's very few US 1920's 30's coaches for Trainz with rideable interiors. Paul actually made the Boonton coach by my request.
I don't mean to be rude, but I don't even think they look good on the outside! The ones with real windows do though. PS, awesome route!

Also, no yellow stripes on tender. It used to, maybe 20 years ago, but since 98 was overhauled, it received a new font and lost the stripes.

Gotcha, I already replaced the text using the Goudy font, but surprisingly it doesn't look any different than the Century Schoolbook font I originally used. An update screen of the tender will be coming soon.

EDIT: This is just to let everyone know that I am going to take a quick break from the route. Don't worry, I'm still doing something Trainz related, but have a look in the USA Pics thread one of these days and you'll see what I've been up to. (hint: this involves a little reskinning)

A couple more updates. I decided to reskin the WWRR's SW900 #915 and the two other cabooses that they own.

SW900 #915. This thing was so easy to reskin, I completed it in Paintshed!

Caboose C2013. Unfortunately, this was the best I could do for the cabooses. Rwk, I'm sure you could probably point out the problem with these.

Now for a quick update on the route.

This is where I'll be posting screens of my Wilmington and Western Railroad project. I was able to complete the 4-4-0 #98, reskinned from Ben Neal's Heavy 4-4-0. I have also started some work on the route itself as well.

Realize that the route will be be uploaded to the DLS, as well as to Trainz Commuter Rail. The reskins, however will NOT be going on the DLS. If I get permission, the reskins will only be uploaded to Trainz Commuter Rail. So far, the 98 is done, and I will reskin the coaches, the SW9, and maybe the 0-6-0 #58. :)

Comment and suggestions welcome. :)

WOW. I want that engine. Where can I get it?

You can't right now in that scheme, but Ben Neal's site Subpar Productions has that exact model in a different scheme. You'll have to wait for the W&W version to be released if he gets permission.

As a matter of fact, I do have permission from Ben Neal to release the 98. Once I get the route done, I will be submitting the loco and tender to Trainz Commuter Rail (along with the other reskins, except for the coaches). I understand that people seem to like this loco, so if anyone wants the 98 right now (including Matt315) please send me a pm with your email address and I'll gladly send it. :) Note that I got rid of the yellow stripes on the tender and on the 98's driving wheels. Please see the later posts of this topic for updated images of the 98.

Here's another update. I can say now that I am almost complete part 1 of this route which goes from the station to the csx yard.

This is a heads up, I know this sounds kind of weird but even though the route isn't done, I would like to start getting an idea of which Trainz versions this route works in, considering I'm gonna be using the same objects for the rest of the route. If anybody wants to test this route, send me a pm with your email address. Note that I am only asking people who have TRS2004, TC (1,2 or 3), and TS2009 since this is being built in TRS2006 SP1.

Part 1 Just About Complete

I am just about completed Part 1 of the route. I just need to add a few finishing touches, then I'll start on Part 2 that goes to Hockessin, Delaware.

I still need some help with testing this route, so I can see which versions this works in. Please pm me if you want to help with testing. Also please list any suggestions you have for improvements that I should make. I am not a super-pro in route building, and would like feedback so I can keep getting better. :)

Thanks,
Robby

Testing

I will gladly test it out for you on TRAINZ 2009.
Also, looks great. Can't watit to see the release of these locos, rolling stock, and route.
Kepp up the good work.

REskinning

Thanks, casey12345

For free stuff, there's GIMP, paint.net, or Irfanview. Or you can buy photoshop (which is what I use).

hey SRR 89. the Wilmington & Western route works great on 2009.
It will be great to see te release of this route.
I can also test the locos or rollingstock if neccesary.
Thanks, and congrats, your route works on 20009 as well.
:D

the only thing i must say is wrong is some of the crossings don't activate, but that's probably just a problem with the setup of the ATLS system. you should get the stand alone crossings, they are what i use.

thanks, casey12345
