First of all stop screaming, it won't make any one answer any quicker.

Now, tell us in detail what you hoped to do, what you did, and what was happening when your content disappeared. What tells you it is gone.

because auarn controls all downloads instead of a site like avsim wher anyone can put and DL anything they want FOR FREE and dont take 20 hrs or have a limit. for some reason the community or auran feels its a bad thiing when it would open it up tp mor coustmers the DLS and have to pay is a deal breaker form some.

so WHYYYYYYY
HAS IT GONE.............

They say you are what you eat, so I've been eating nuts!

This kind of thing is expected and happens frequently to many newcomers hopping on the wagon.

It is advisable to Back-up all your important data before installing a service pack update for trainz.

OOOOOOSSSSAAAAAAa.....breath in breath out..we are calm..we are relaxed..our troubles are melting...please turn tape over to continue(oops)

Ozguy51 ,

1) not everything may be gone - first look for the "local" folder in the TRS folder - this is where your creations & downloaded content are located.

2) you don't say which version & update you were trying - we can't crystal ball gaze and give you a lot of help unless you tell us.

3) If you're running 2009 (or 2008) you should try re-building the database.
If it's 2004, then try deleting the "chump file" - this forces the rebuild in that version.

And you're point is?
Try writing it more slowly, write your sentences in clear English and maybe we'll follow your argument.
I think your're wingeing about the fact that the a first class ticket to the DLS actually costs some money. Thre's now't for now't in this world - someone has to pay to keep the servers and bandwidth.
If you don't like the DLS - feel free to start your own.

Colin

What version of Trainz are you running and what is the total size (in gigs) of your Trainz directory ???
It's unlikely that you have deleted your Trainz content. You may just need to rebuild your data base. By giving us your version, we can then explain how to rebuild your data base...
Cheers, Mac...

Seeing that Peter aka narrowgauge also lives in Adelaide, why don't you send him a PM (Private Message) or an email and I am sure he can help you. You mention something about MBR (MasterBootRecord) sector, this sounds you might have a Virus attack or something which destroyed your MBR. There are certain programs which repairs/restores this as there is a backup around and if this is the case your TRS or TS can be repaired, restored and hopefully accessed.

Also what you could do if you have your PC going already, look for some of the folders mentioned above to see if they are still there and back these up somewhere else onto your hard disk (which you said you did already) and reinstall TRS or TS again into a new place on your hard disk as a last resort and copy your backed up folders across and either do a database repair (from TRS06 upwards) or delete the chump file (TRS04) depending which version of TRS or TS you have. As your original install could be corrupted and can not load up as it is supposed to do. But do this ONLY as a LAST resort if all else fails.

Also, it is NOT wise to post your unlisted phone number in a public forum, as the world is nowadays the way it is and one never knows what can happen.

You still have not mentioned WHICH version of TRS/TS you have as resurrections/repair of any of them differ by the version one has installed.

I wish you luck

ozyguy51,
I'm still alittle confused here !!!!!
First of all, have you managed to sort out your MBR problem yet? If not, thats the first thing you need to sort out. As Vinnybarb mentioned above, there is a reasonable possibility that you have picked up a boot sector virus. Some can be cleaned, other really nasty ones cannot. (in some cases, reformatting & re-installing the OS is the only option)...

Once you have sorted that out you can then start worrying about your Trainz problem.
Is the Trainz directory on C: drive or do you have the drive partitioned into more than one drive? If so, is Trainz on D : or E: drive.
The reason I ask is if you have all your Trainz content on another drive (other than C: drive) and assuming you have nothing of importance on C: you could re-format C: drive and re-install your OS.

Once you have re-installed your OS all you need to do is make a "Trainz" Icon on your desktop, (right click on TRS2006.exe and drag & drop to your desktop "Create shortcuts here") - then re-start Trainz for the first time since installing OS so Trainz can make the appropriate reg entry...
If you are still have a Trainz problem/s, you may have to re-build your data base as others above have mentioned. (don't forget to give us your version)...
Please always remember, the more detail you can give us about your problem/s, the version of Trainz your running & your system, the better chance we have of helping you sort your problem/s out.

With you having worked on computers for 15 years, I assuming you are a where of all the above. I haven't written this to insult your intelligent in any way. I've written it because often there are several people in the forum that are having the same (or similar) problem/s. I've written it because they might not be as computer savy as you.
Good luck & keep us posted.
Cheers, Mac...

MANY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP...

I have sorted out the problems with the computer and have it up an running again the trainz version is 2004 and it had been hit after it was updated an lost my 1500 content an maps that i was working on ...

So me was just very upset too loose my content after 2 years of work,

Any one know how it happened .MMMMMM
I just updated it with more content an the DLS server was taking 128k/b up load an 3kb download .Astrange thing to do .???
ok thanks again caio for now........Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Thaks for the invitation - but it's a long way for a cup of tea.....:(

Everyting you created is stored in a folder called "local" within the Trainz sub-directory.

With 2004 the program is within the C:\Program files\Auran tree structure (unless you changed it).

That probably means that the C:\Program files folder got "cleaned up".

If you can recover any of the folder contents, then copy them into the "local" folder, then delete the "chump files" (I forget the exact format - it's a long time since I used 2004 - but search on the forum for "database rebuild")

That forces the content manager to re-build the database - and include all the assets moved into the folder.

HTH

I Agree with the part where it is not wise to post your phone number because of 3 things:

1.the world has gone mad
2.you may not know who your talking to
3.your setting yourself up for trouble and all I have to say is becareful because people will do just about anything & are crazy!
and yeah,good luck on this!

Speak for yourself
wingeing? whats that
Thre's now't for now't ? WHAT
Before you criticize someone Make sure you make sense yourself
Flight sim community has no trouble.

Hi Simking1
Auran has not stopped creators from creating their own download websites. There are many 3rd party websites, and one even has a 'download station' style website.

There is however one thing that can only be done via the Auran download station. That is using the built-in download helper program in Trainz (either the TRS04 and older version, or the versions in CMP/CM2 in newer versions). These cannot access 3rd party sites, since it would not be possible to keep an up to date list (even the community does struggle with this one!).

This is where the Trainz Download Station is different. It allows a creator to upload just one item, and then reference a multitude of dependencies. These dependencies then get automatically downloaded by the Trainz Download Helper, so long as they are on the download station. The Flight Sim communities (and other train sim communities) do NOT have access to this sort of system. In fact, if I remember right, a flight sim item needs to either be bundled with ALL required items (copyright nightmare right there!) or have a multitude of download links (and very specific install instructions) for them.

As for having a free/pay service for the download station. You'll find that the main flight sim site (flightsim.com, who also run trainsim.com IIRC) has a free server, with limited download speed and number of people who can be logged in at any one time, for those who don't want to pay for a first class membership. Of course, the first class membership then gives full access and faster download speeds. This is no different to what Auran runs. In both cases, the servers do cost money, as does the bandwidth. Hence they offer a, limited, free service. And they then offer a pay service with these limitations removed.

As for your previous post, I'll answer your questions on these right now.

Wingeing is much like whining. Basically it means that you are complaining for the sake of complaining, or complaining in a selfish way. Or something to that effect. It's more of a slang expression, seeing as that specific term isn't in the dictionary.

For the term "Thre's now't for now't". This is a fairly common term, although it varies in how it's actually said/worded. It means that there nothing for nothing, or that you nothing is ever truly free, there's normally a limitation of some sort. It's not entirely true IMO, but in this case it is pretty much correct. Web servers cost money, as such the person who is using them to make downloads available needs to pay for them. Because of this, they will offer a limited free download service, and then have a 'first class' subscription which you pay for to obtain the download service without these limits.

Of course, some smaller 3rd party sites don't do this. But then they are generally a lot smaller than the download station. Remember, the DLS is accessed directly from Trainz, and as such anyone with trainz will automatically 'known' where it is (since the downloader is part of trainz). As such, every person registered with a legitimate serial number is a potential downloader. This compared to the 350 odd members on the VicTrainz forums, who are the potential downloaders for that site...

So please, before you start demanding that everyone give you everything for free, please think about what it may be costing them to provide that service/item. Websites are not cheap, and a large site like the download station will most certainly cost money to run.

Hello ozyguy and welcome to the forum,

When I first appeared on this forum, way back in 2006, I done similar to you by writing everything in big letters and didn't realise it could turn more people away, than help me, I was informed by my great trainz buddys on here, that big writing is a form of screaming, eventhough it seems you have screamed way louder than me, it must be something to do with the beer:hehe:.

Anyway, just to let you know, if you type the way everyone else does on here, then you'll find more of your new trainz friends will be willing to help you, don't worry your not the first to come on screaming as I did it myself, and you won't be the last, good luck in your quest in solving your problem and hope you get it fixed soon.

I feel your pain. Actually, something similar to what happened to you happened to me, except i had to get my computer fixed and i too had a bunch of trainz content on my TS09 game. When i got my computer fixed, everything was gone. :'( I only saved a few things. This was back not to long ago. :( :( So yeah, don't feel bad.
