Why wont trainz 2012 work properly.

HJAAM

New member
Sinds i have installed trainz 2012 i have problems with it. It starts very slowly, if it starts it will not work properly, every time the trainz asset dbase needs to be repaired. What will happened automatic. It takes about 10 min. to repair.
Then trainz starts-up but that takes about 5 min. If trainz is running then its for almost 5 min. and hangs.

My hardware:
Asus p5ql pro 4Gb mem ddr3 (latest drivers)
Intel quad core on 1066Mhz
Geforce9600GT 512Mb (latest drivers)
All other programs disabled.
Zone alarm extreme security (latest version)

After all the crashes sometimes the crashreporter works. After all these reports no response from Auran or n3v.
Also mail reports to the helpdesk.

I have no virus or something else. After different scans with different scanners. (ZA, CCleaner, etc.)

Now it seems that Auran and/or N3V wont respond to my questions is there someone that will help me with this?

Thanks Harry (HJAAM)

Might be worth checking if there are any later drivers available for your graphics card, as your current one was released in October. (If you are wondering how I know, as the developer of said program I've got to understand how it works).

Even though you are using OpenGL, it may still be worth checking for any DirectX updates - see my sticky for this.

Other members may also have advice for sorting this.

DirectX - bimonthly updates 4.09.00.0904 (RC0 for DX 9.0c) The February 9, 2005 release is the first 64-bit capable build.[11]The last build for Windows 98/Me is the redistributable from December 13, 2006.[12] The last build for Windows 2000 is the redistributable from February 5, 2010.[13] April 2006 is the first official support to Windows Vista[14] and August 2009 is the first official support to Windows 7 and DX11 update[15] Released bimonthly from October 2004 to August 2007, and quarterly thereafter; Latest version: June 2010[16]This is a copy from wikipedia about DirectX.

The number of DX is ok. Its the latest for the 32 bit version.
It's strange that only 2010 and 2012 has trouble.
I think it has to do with the handling in trainz with the database. There is something wrong but i cant see on this moment what it is.

It may be that TS2010 and TS12 are more designed for systems with at least 4GB memory, and a 64-bit system.

Reason I'm saying that is that Trainz can use a lot of memory very easily.

Shane

To Shane.
I cant install the latest DirectX (10.0 or later) because they are for 64 bit.
The latest grafic driver does not work for me, because there are some problems during the installation. Some files giving errors.

I have drivermax installed that looks for me the latest drivers one's a month.
So i'm not worried about the drivers.

I told earlier that i think that it has to do with the handling from the database in trainz. It takes much to long to change from one to other screens/parts in trainz. In surveyor it take 5 min to change from F1 to F3 or parts. It seems that a hole database must be loaded, unloaded to go further.

So i think it's a trainz problem. And when i read the forum i'm not the only with this kind of trouble/errors.

But it's ok to check all drivers to make sure it's no driver problem.
And two see more then one.

This may be an odd question, but have you actually checked for Trainz patches? One of these may correct your issue.

Anyway, for XP the latest version you can install is DirectX 9.0C (June 2010/April 2011).

I'm a bit puzzled about the driver issue, and have a feeling this may have a bearing on this issue.

Shane

Yes i think that is the problem. The amount of mem that is been used by trainz is behind properties.

141.575 kb for TADDaemon and 15.016 for launcher at startup.
When trainz is started up:
167.700 kb for TADDaemon and 65.500 for trainz.
When the data asset base is working there are 4 x trainzutil.exe 40.000 KB each, and TADDaemon 185.000 Kb.

That's a lot of memory using by 1 program.

So why are they making a program this way that a lot of people get trouble with there amount of memory. There must be a program maker to see this problem coming when they made a program this way.
I see this in a lot of programs happening.
Are they thinking that we can buy a bigger faster more mem computer easy.
I'm sorry thats not the way. I no that in computerland every thing is going fast, but i'm not thinking about buying more mem or a new computer while this one is still working perfectly. (beside trainz)

That was what i had on my mind, sorry but i had to write this down.

I'm in a similar jam. Its looking more and more like I need a brand new PC to run this product optimaly. I dont think i can even upgrade my current PC to min specs to run it at all. But then looking at the recommneded specs i might as well buy a new PC.

Wow! seems like a great product but alot of extra work to play it.

I would advise uninstalling TS12 and reinstalling from the start, trainzutil.exe won't run unless it's rebuilding the database, and if it keeps rebuilding the database every time you run it something in the data is corrupt. My systems, I recently bought a 3.4ghz Pentium D to replace my 2.8ghz, which brings me up to minimum standards on one computer but it's still the worst performing game I have.

It doesn't run very well on either of those systems, it's a jerky slideshow and constant struggle to stay above 10FPS with even a moderate amount of AI traffic running, but I don't get the constant database rebuild. Best bet open content manager, run the extended database repair, and if that doesn't fix it uninstall, clean up and defrag your hard drive, reinstall and repatch to the latest build.

Just occurred to me, the title of this thread;

"Why wont trainz 2012 work properly."

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, there's no such game as "trainz 2012". What we have;

Railworks 3 Train Simulator 2012 - made by a different company, it's not Trainz, and all the reports I'm getting it requires a cray to run it. :hehe:

Trainz Simulator 12 - that's the real name of the latest Trainz version, everyone keeps calling it "2012" or "TS2012", which is what the railworks people are also calling theirs. To avoid confusion I'd advise we call it TS12 or Trainz 12 and avoid the "2012" name altogether.

HE guys thanks for all your replays.

But i have sayd it before, it's not usual to buy a new computer just for 1 game. Thats an expensive game then. First you pay for the game and later on for a new computer. That's the world up site down.

No the system i have is good. Not the best, but it works fine. In tests it came out above average, so i do it with this system.

I have reinstalled trainz 2012 now for tree times. Even the registry keys deleted by hand, so i now that 2012 was totaly deleted from my system.
Set it up again in a special folder in program files, what i never do, i put all programs on my D drive to keep windows clean. (program files)
Most of the programs work well with this. But there are programs that must install in program files. Like zone alarm and network magic.

I have tree drives, Lacie 1Tb networkdrive, 1 freecom drive 500Gb usb in 3 partitions on my desk. 1 system drive in 2 partitions C and D. This drive is 500 Gb sata.
Onboard Gb lan. Onboard sound.

On the desk drive i have Ubuntu installed on it's own partititon, and also this works perfect without any errors.

Oke i'm talking about Auran's TR2012.
It has nothing to do with railworks.

I speak only about Auran because i have TRS2006, TR2009, TR2010, and TR2012 and some other stuff that must be installed in TRS2006.

And i post here because all programs and other downloads came from here.
I'll payd here and if something is't working i complain here.

And also if your looking in the download database you see different stuff under one name. It's a building but stands under locomotives.

Why not talking in english in the forum and also in the trainz database so every one understands what is going on. The latest edition all is written in Hungarian/Chinees/Russian language, why not in english? So everybody can reed what is displayd.
I'm from Holland but trying all to write in the english. So everybody nows what i'm talking about.

If you want all behind eachother then begin with that.

Okay, you're talking about Auran's TS12, there is no "TR2012". No idea about language, my TS12 came in English, all instructions are in English. Are you installing TS12 as a stand alone program, or are you trying to install as an addon for TS2010? I am not telling you that you need a better computer, if you look at the specs I posted your machine is already much better than either of mine, so hardware is not your problem. I would suggest just install the game by itself, not in any of the TS2009 or TS2010 folders, do not add anything to it or try to import content or patch - test it first after installing to see if it works. If it does work as a brand new install and does not work after you import or merge something, then you know the problem is with something you're trying to import. If it does not work, then possibly you have a defective disk or incomplete download.

I think the question about the exact game was legitimate. It wouldn't be the first time someone was confused because of the way RW named their latest version. All questions about Trainz are welcome here.
And also if your looking in the download database you see different stuff under one name. It's a building but stands under locomotives.
An unfortunate result of entering the wrong codes in the config files. Easy to do, hard to correct.

Another difficult issue. Trainz is a world wide program, used and enjoyed in many languages. There are several different language sections in forum for those who are more comfortable in their own language. You're brave to be posting in English. I don't know many English speakers who could post in the Dutch section. As for the other language descriptions, that would be in the content. Much of it is created by people around the world for whom English is not their first language and so they use their native language to describe their creations and even the names of their objects. I did the same for some of mine. Since they were created and meant to be used in Dutch themed routes, I didn't feel it was too much out of line.

Meanwhile, Google Translate is your friend if some descriptions are too obscure.
