why is TS2009 so slow loading in VISTA

Same here. Removed my name and password from the config and now TS2009 loads very quickly on Vista64. Strange that on XP, it was enough to have Zone Alarm block access to the Internet. Almost like TS2009 keeps trying until it finally gives up and load.

Is there a way to tell TS2009 not to even try? I wonder why it didn't have this effect under XP.

Since patching to 40040, my load time got better.

Thinking on this, I wonder if some of it is related to settings and how Vista handles computer RAM. Even with a graphics card, part of my RAM gets allocated to video and I cannot shut it off. I normally set TRS to use half my computer RAM but if some of that is tied up in video, then maybe the setting is wrong.

With 2GB RAM, Vista reports putting 766MB into Shared memory that gets used with the card for graphics. I normally set TRS to 1GB maybe I should be setting to close to half of what is left, 1234MB.

stop the presses!

Was still getting an occasional long delay, even without my name and password when I tried using the other display service. Instead of DirectX, I checked off OpenGL. :D Suddenly there was no delay even after putting my name and password bad. TS2009 is still not allowed to see the Internet on this machine but that is another story. Now the create/revise, import and test cycle is back to a smooth process.

Don't have any other games that need DirectX or OpenGL so I can't test here. Are they involved in any other screen activity or just the basic graphic card software driver?

I have had the same loading time problem for a while now, it seems to get worse the more content that is added.

But, as far as I can see, this has nothing to do with Vista or the computer hardware.

I run TS2009 on Linux under Wine as well as on Windows Vista and the proplem persists on both systems. This all brought me to this thread, and it is indeed an internet connection problem. Once I removed my name and password from the settings, I had no more problems on both systems, loading time is now instantaneous.

Although it is a simple matter to re-enter my details when I wish to add content, it really is a matter Auran should have addressed by now. It was, after all, the main pain-in-the-butt of Content Manager Plus in TRS2006.

This problem has been found but not why so a fix is not available yet. A work around is to disable ichat from the Surveyor menu, 09 will then load in seconds!

I have TS2009 Build 40040 and just removed my login name and password and disabled iChat in Surveyor and it made very little difference in performance. In fact, I still get the screen that tells me Trainz is waiting for access to its servers when I open Surveyor or Driver. Granted, it is on-screen for only a few seconds, but it is not my desire to wait for a feature I am not using and tried to disable in the settings. Further, when I go into Content Manager now, I get the Setup window and a red bar at the bottom telling me CM can't find Auran's servers and needs to work offline.

Working offline should be a simple setting in the configuration window, and Auran should honor that choice and let its customers work/play quietly and uninterrupted by constant attempts to connect to its servers when its customers have all the assets desired and do NOT need to have their database updated or spend wasted time waiting for Trainz to determine if the database needs to be refreshed, and when it has already been determined that the login information is NOT present. It leaves Auran's customers with a level of frustration that could be easily avoided.

Please, Auran, continue to provide the best Train Simulation product available and add online gaming capability if that is where things are headed, but give me and others who wish to do so the capability to work completely offline and not be pestered by unending attempts to access the DLS when I/we are not in need of searching for new content! I know how and when to access the Internet on my own when I wish/need to do so and do NOT need an over-zealous gaming application to do that for me. Thank you.

Although I Don't have Vista or 2009, I agree that Auran should create an option to stop Trainz from trying to connect to their site all the time.

I am a dial-up user and almost gave up on Trainz completely! You should see how this type of thing affects dial-up users!

I solved it finally, (after months), when I learned of an option in Windows XP to turn off Autodial. I think the info was on the Microsoft Website. Solved the problem instantly.

Maybe there is an option somewhere in Vista (or even XP) to turn off auto-connecting? Just a thought.

Good luck to all ! Bob P.

I just went to the Microsoft page that helped me with auto dial in XP. Here is a paste from it.....Of course, this is for XP and Autodial....
---------------------------------------------------------
To turn off AutoDial follow these steps

1. Open Control Panel, and then click Performance and Maintenance.

2. Click Administrative Tools, and then double–click Services.

3. Double–click Remote Access Auto Connection Manager.

4. Click Stop to shutdown the service, then set the Startup type at Disabled, and then click OK.

Now your computer will never try to automatically dial up an Internet connection. To connect to the Internet manually, use whatever Internet connection you specified in Network Connections.

Its odd given that I have TRS'06 installed on my new laptop that has Vista 64bit Premium and TRS runs perfectly and loads really fast. My Rout used to take almost 7 min to load on my old PC and now gets going in less than 2 min. I did nothing other than make sure I installed it under Administrator and made sure that the Auran folder was read/write enabled.

To turn off Always On Internet in XP or any version of Windows with an external Cable Modem...

1. Locate the external Cable Modem.

2. Reach behind the Cable Modem.

3. Disconnect its power cord or the Ethernet/USB Cable.

4. No more Always ON Internet and no more TS2009 or any version of Auran's gaming software trying to constantly connect to its site and disrupting our efforts to enjoy the best Train Simulation application available!

:) Just kidding! :)
