Why I dislike "stop quoting pictures" people

Hello all.
I've come across many people on the Forums, some nice and some....not so nice. Let me explain here.

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT TRYING TO OFFEND ANYONE OR INVOKE ARGUMENT, I AM SPEAKING OUT ABOUT BEING KIND AND COURTEOUS.

Okay, lets get started.

I'm sure this isn't news to you, but people who tell you to stop quoting pictures are annoying. Sometimes we forget things and that's okay, but when someone comes along and says "stop quoting all the pictures," with no rhyme or reason, EVERY TIME YOU DO IT, it infuriates me and probably a few other Trainzers. Then, they never say 'thank you' or 'please' in their posts, invoking MORE fury from the affected user. I can rewrite their message an infinite number of ways, including "Hey, could you please remove the images from the quote? Thank you!"

Next time you're telling someone that, please be kind and courteous. Thank you!

This has been a problem from the start it's nothing new here, I just ignore it I've been on the forms for years and seen a lot worse.

I must be slow because it took me a little while to figure out that "quoting the pictures" means including a picture from a previous post in the quote. I must also admit that I did just that yesterday for the very first time that I can recall, but I felt it was "important for the joke" (if interested see https://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?166118-Swamp-Mountain-Line).

Otherwise I generally agree with the statement but accept that there can be valid reasons for doing it. But it does appear to be overdone.

It's probably more of a problem for people accessing from phones or maybe tablets. It means having to do a lot more scrolling to get down through the thread. Maybe not such a big deal on the PC.

^Bingo, not everybody has a fast internet connection and it's common courteous not to quote the picture, just remove it.

I would courteously and nicely ask those with large images in their signature to please consider smaller ones... Yes, I could set the "do not show signatures" option but I find many to have value and it's also nice to have the "system" and "build" info alot of us put in our sigs. But some sig images are just to large. It's especially annoying when the same person in a thread has every other reply and they appear over and over and over....

Pics are OK... just a reasonable size please...

There is actually a size-requirements for the signatures. It's in the Code of Conduct and it does get enforced.

18-2

Signature banners may not cover an area greater than 800 pixels in width, 100 pixels in height and may not have a total file size greater than 30kb.

There is also a sub for taking consideration to those on slower internet connections.

All of your posts are reasonable answers to my thread, but why can't people be kinder? I'd happily remove an image from a quote to save some bandwidth if people asked politely!

I think politeness is becoming non existent in our societies. Just look at the posts in these forums. Some days I hesitate to even come here but I still do for the valuable information found in some very informative and polite posts. I'm glad there is still some kindness and care to be found. There are some great people here. I try to focus on those people and the positive and just ignore the junk.

As many have stated its an old courteous rule for those that have slower connections. Also looking at screenshot threads, scrolling through the same images just to get to the new shots can be fairly annoying. Whenever I quote someone who has screenshots in it, to ask a question. I delete the images and put "~Awesome screenshots here." But as been pointed out some people dont exactly use the right tact to explain things to newer users who might not know some of the etiquette around here.

Re posting a screenshot or image that is in the previous post can often be unnecessary but what if the image you are referring to is several pages of posts (note *pages* not *posts*) back?

It is all a matter of context I guess. As far as I am concerned, you can do whatever you want.

Quote pictures, complain about quoting pictures, be a give me pig, complain about give me pigs, rant about N3V, defend N3V, create useless attention seeking threads, complain about useless attention seeking threads or be a drama queen and announce you are leaving because no one likes you and you know what? I can click on your username, go to your profile and add you to my ignore user list and never have to see anything you write again. Which is a shame really as you may have something valuable to contribute to the community but I simply don't want to dig through a giant pile of manure to see if there is a pony hidden inside.

Easy if you know how, you could just link to that post, copy the post number on the far right which is a link, example is your post I'm replying to #11 which if you copy the #11 link gives this https://forums.auran.com/trainz/sho...ng-pictures-quot-people&p=1901986#post1901986 or probably simpler if referencing one image in say a dozen in one post to ask a question on it, you can delete the ones not required from the quote.

Given that these days many won't have grown up with Internet Etiquette have never experienced dial up and bandwidth restrictions or don't know how to edit quotes or easily link to a specific post on a specific type of forum software, not all is the same, IMO a bit of tolerance and some diplomacy if commenting on it would be advisable.

Whatever reposting of screenshots on here is not really what I'd call a big problem compared to forums elsewhere.
