Why are they called reskins?

I can't understand why my rolling stock custom objects, painstakingly created from scratch using Trains Asset Creation Studio (and learning how to use it in the process - not easy, but less difficult since I found and studied all the excellent tutorials) are classed as "reskins" by the DLS. Can anyone explain, please, as it makes it appear as though I'm publishing modifications of someone else's work, which I would never do without permission.

I asked the same quetion before. It seems that what we call reskinning is actually recoloring.

I believe that the term Reskinning has been accepted as the norm.

The issue is new original items created from scratch are labeled as reskins on the DLS. They are not reskins.

Yea they should be listed as rolling stock, like it says when you mouse over the car, not reskins. Maybe if Zec see's this thread he can let them know so they can change it at the DLS to read rolling stock.

Thanks for the replies - so it's not just me! Sorry I didn't realise this had been raised before - it was probably before I became interested in the Forum - I now have to get my daily fix.

Ray; Which software are you using to create your content? Blender, or GMax?
I have never done any cc, but would like to get into creating some good looking US buildings to go with my CSX route in NJ and NY.

A bit off topic, but have you done Paulhobbs' Primus tutorial yet? Not easy, but once you've done it, your gmax expertise will go up several notches.

1. I use TRS2004 (my computer at present will not run a later version - Intel Pentium 4 630, 512MB DDR2 memory, 250 GB hard drive plus external 500 GB drive, and - probably the biggest bugbear! - integrated graphics), Trains Asset Creation Studio/GMAX as provided with TRS2004, Serif PhotoPlus 9 for artwork - part of the Serif suite which also includes WebPlus 9 as used for my website. All work together very well.

2. The Primus tutorial is on my waiting list at present - there are so many to work through, all fascinating and helpful.
