Which TRS2006 folder(s) contain routes?

I had TRS06 installed on a computer whose hard drive I reformatted and donated to the Salvation Army. I have TRS06 backed up on two DVDs, which includes a new route I created based on the Marias Pass Approach using F7 diesels and steam.

I've installed TRS06 on my new computer, and I would like to copy the folder or folders that contain the new route I created. I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me which folder(s) are the right ones.

Routes and assets are in your "Local" file ... under encrypted "hash' files names.

You will not find it there, as it is indecypherable.

Instead ... Save it as a CDP, and put it on a hard disc, memory stick, or in an E-Mail ... as a CDP file.

Ah yes - the CDP! I read in the forum a while back that this was the thing to do. So I did and now I have a nice CDP carefully stored on a memory stick. Trouble is I'm dreading needing to use it as I haven't a clue what to do with it. Please could you gve me a simple step by step approach what I should do.

Your advice would help me to sleep peacefully.

I wasn't trying to save my routes and assets -- I want to copy them from my backup DVDs to my new installation. Do I just replace the Local folder in my new installation with the Local folder from my backup DVD?

Art there are two ways to do this:

One is do a complete copy of your local folder back in. You may have delete the assets.tdx file and let CMP rebuild the database.

The other way is do an import from the file menu.

Open File than Import Content.
Browse to where you copied your data to - your backup DVD, and click OK.

The process may take some time, and you may have to commit the content to the database.

To avoid further difficulty I would recommend replacing the local folder in your new install with the local folder you have saved from the old install. You could try to merge the two, but if it worked, I'm afraid you would end up with endless duplications, unless you opted to not copy over files that already exist.

The route I created, a 1950s version of the Marias Pass Approach route, is all there and fully operational! Copying the "local" folder and deleting the assets.tdx file did the trick. Thanks to those of you who suggested those.

Just one glitch: when I click Manage Content, the message is that the Trainz installation could not be found. Should another one of the folders I saved on the DVDs be moved to the new installation?

Open "Manage Content"
Click "File"
Click "Import CDPs"
Go to the directory where you stored the CDP files
Highlight the one(s) to import
Click "Enter" to import
Click "View in Main List" at the bottom of the box
Highlight new additions
Click Ctrl-M to commit
Close Content Manager
Start simulator
Select Surveyor
You should find new additions there, although some additions are intended for the Railyard, and will not show up in any asset list in Surveyor.

...or you could just put the cdp on the desktop and drag it into any open CM window.

Alan, You might want to download a CDP file, maybe a locomotive from Download Station, and install it. I think that would make you feel more confident about using CDPs in a pinch.

Yippee, it worked!!! I created a very simple test route (because the Download Station is another can of worms) - so, just a length of plain track and a siding. Then I saved it as a CDP, deleted it from Surveyor and reinstalled from the CDP- and there it was, good as new!!!
