Which TRAINZ Sim is Best for Me?

** What is the best all-around Version that functions well and has all the bells and whistles? **
Question for the Experts:

I have enjoyed Trainz for a while now and enjoy the ability to create and modify my own tracks and such, and experimenting with some skinning in Gmax.
I currently own: 2006, 2009 World Builer, and 2010 Engineers Edition. I am wanting to upgrade to what I hope would be better graphics, better options, better controls and commands, ect...

From what I've been reading so far, Driver 2016 I guess doesn't come with Surveyor, Content Manager, or Download Station? They can be added? for an additional cost I presume? I don't want to have to keep adding too much, just to end up where I could have started with another Version. I also don't want anything too buggy or glitchy. Besides that my satellite internet has limited band width go figure... :(

Well I just started out in 2012. Had 2010 for quite a long time. I've only played the game for about 4 hours and I love it. Graphics are wonderful, textures are amazing, framerate is perfect, and the engines are wonderful I'd suggest getting 2012 if that's what youa are into, but it's your choice my friend.

If you want to keep up with everyone else right now and if your computer can handle it, Get Trainz: A New Era, if you don't want to keep up with everyone else and are okay with playing a older version then the best one you should get is TS12, if your getting a Mac version of the game then get the Mac 2 version.

Thanks Matt,

Does TANE have Surveyor, Content Manager, and such? And is it Available as a CD? Is it Standalone capable? Is it pretty stable?
Some of the reviews from Amzon seem to think it's not as good as older versions. I figure those that are on here have experience with different versions and editions out there, and would have a more informed opinion than 5 Amzon reviews... LOL:hehe:

Yes to all of the above. You might want to click on the T:ANE link at the top and check it out for yourself.

Of Course TANE has Surveyor, Content Manager, (Basically everything you need is in there). I know there were CD versions of it when it came out but I would suggest you get the Digital Copy because if their is a patch update, the Digital one can update it automatically while the CD one I think you will have to get a updated disc.

Get TANE if you have the latest computer hardware, otherwise be careful. Recommend latest processor technology, SSD hard drive, 16 Gigs of RAM or more, etc... The TANE version is really better than the rest as far as bells and whistles go IMO... You might as well get used to digital downloads and a way to store it off line (USB thumbdrives or external SSD's). Alot of people I see here load the whole deal on an external drive, or multiple external drives for multiple versions.

The biggest problem I have with a digital download is the Satellite bandwidth i have to deal with as well as the sometimes unstable downloading. Not sure of the size of the download. But if it is large and fails I have to start over. (1gb started three times =2.4gb(with crashes) out of my 12gb available.)

Is the surveyor interface much different from older versions? Have they added to the driver interface? How far back, is it backward compatible?

I appreciate all input and so will others struggling with the same questions.
Thanks

Alright, here's what I think.

the 8gb ram is fine.
processor SHOULD be ok.
GPU? Not so hot. Don't get TANE, you won't be able to run it.
The HDD also seems fine.

personally? If I was in your shoes I'd pick up ts10. I'd say 12 but the GPU is the killer. I think you could run 10 very smoothly on that system.

If you had bothered to read his opening post, you would be aware that he already owns 2010.

Not to mention that, when all things are considered, comparable performance settings on T:ANE compared with 2010 most likely will work just fine. A lot of members neglect this fact in spewing forth unwarranted criticism of T:ANE.

Okay, I'll admit that the first thing I do with each update of T:ANE is crank up the performance settings to maximum and see what happens. But if I set the draw distance to a shorter setting closer to that used in 2010, shadows and water detail to a notch lower, and post processing to Low, then the performance is actually better, based on my experience.

When I upgraded my system recently, I was exceedingly glad that I had a better platform for running T:ANE; it was nice having software that would show off the improvement in hardware.

Your system should run TS12 fine, but not T:ANE due to the video card, which has to be DX11 or higher, and a bit on the older side. My older Alienware laptop actually had the same video card, and it handled TS12 fine. Your internal HD is a bit small, but you can install and run it from an external, though the performance will be much lower. I did the same with my old laptop as well. since my installed hard disk was about the same size.

I think N3V has boxed copies of TS12 for sale. You need to go to the Trainz Portal store to order your software.

https://store.trainzportal.com/

It'll take a week or so to come through the mail. The boxed copies may or may not be fully updated, but if you do spring for this, install it and if the build is below 61388, then you need to update.

1.5 TerraBytes Internal HDD should be more than enough room for the largest of the Trainz programs... I am running DX11...
I guess if I had to I can upgrade the video card, but would rather avoid it. If TANE is much more advanced than earlier versions, it might be worth upgrading.

Thanks for all the input...

Not gonna lie, TANE is super good, but I really don't think you could run it well.

I understand you don't wanna upgrade the GPU, but you may need to.

Thanks ktain.ny , That might be what I end up doing. TANE looks like the way to go.
Is it the same as , or do you have any thoughts on TMR17?
So many different versions available anymore it is hard to decide and gets quite confusing.
I started with #6 (2006) and now there are some 26 versions...

Edit: I see that TMR2017 is not exactly the same and is Download only at present so I'm ruling that out for now.
Thanks again...
