What's wrong with my computer??

Now, if I want to move a file from one folder to another, it takes 5-10 seconds for the action to be completed. The same for moving stuff to the Trash. Also, if I close out of Photoshop it won't open again until I restart the computer a couple times. I've defragged, ran fix-it utilities, and virus removal software to no avail. My games basically run fine.

Anyone have a fix?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

If you do not run a system cleaner such as CCleaner then you will have problems with space on your drives and size on the register

I have used this program for a number of years and run it at least once a month.

When installed leave everything as default until you become familiar with the program then keep adding options.

I do not tick Autocomplete Form History or Saved Passwords on first page but as above only add tick items when you become familiar with the program.

So run the tw the go the the items on the first page Registry page, I have everything ticked there.

Sounds like some Windows Update may have caused these gremlins.

Do you use system restore?

If so, try restoring your computer to an earlier date. You loose nothing except files created from the last restore point and new programs installed.

(so before running system restore, do some strategic backups ... )

Hope this helps.

Probably not the case but in this respect always good to err on the side of caution.
Use this excellent freeware to check your hard drive for signs of possible failure.

Many drives - if not encountering sudden death - often display reduced performance and lots of issues like delayed write failures shortly before they fail.

Definitely sounds like a HDD about to give it up. It could also be a faulty RAM module. There is something called MemTest 86 that you can use to check your RAM. It's very easy to use.

Using CCleaner or something similar is a good idea for general clearing out of stuff that accumulates over time. Advanced System care is another good product for this.

Dave,

I would back up the data!

This sounds like a failing hard disk to me.

Go to Staples, BestBuy, Frye's or some other place, and get yourself an external backup drive if you don't have one.

Back up your TS12 full install.

Backup your Documents folder.

Backup your T:ANE user data.

Backup anything else.

Then if anything goes kaput, you will be able to replace the hard disk and then reinstall without worrying about your stuff.

Dave,

Yes, definitely check the HD. Just fought this issue myself with similar symptoms. Acronis Drive Monitor is another free utility for this.
It could be something else, but you want to rule out the HD or catch it ASAP - especially YOUR hard drive. It might be the most valuable hard drive in the entire Trainz world!

Best regards,
Kevin
