What's with TC CMP?

Recently moved several locos from TRS2006 to TC. 2 of them showed faults in CMP but were OK in TRS2006 CMP. Also 2 of Auran's built-in generic cabs were needed for a couple of these locos. These were shown as faulty too. So I rewrote the config files to remove the words that were not allowed by CMP.
Really should this be necessary? Having to play around with config files for something as basic as an Auran generic cab? It seems that with every release or Trainz CMP just seems to get more nit-picking as to what it finds "acceptable". I don't suppose that anyone from Auran will reply to this.

TC CMP is a lot more fussy about what it will accept for the good reason that faulty assets will crash TC. The routines that worked around some of the problems in assets have been removed to make the sim run more smoothly.

As for faults in Auran assets why do you think they were removed from TC in the first place?

(Doing my best “old geezer” impression…)

“I recall the good old days the day when Trainz was simple. You installed it, downloaded content from the DLS, they ran the very first time, you made layouts. Ahhhh,…life was good!”

I recently got Trainz Classic and have been frustrated to death with CMP. I heard TC was “better” than TS-06, so I only installed TC. I used CMP to download content and was immediately discouraged by less than half showing up in my Railyard available for viewing or for use in layouts, and worse, things downloading (a large amount!) with “Missing Dependencies.” My list of assets in CMP of missing stuff is almost as large as my downloaded content! :(

I’ve read numerous forum threads that make mention of some sort of difference between TC & 06, whereby content created for 06, reads as “bad,” “missing,” “errant,” (whatever!) when it’s really not. Due to the way TC is now checking something that 06 didn’t,…well, seems TC doesn’t like it and flags it. Is this true? :o

Would ditching/dumping TC and just going with TS06 solve this problem? If the content I downloaded could be moved to a new install of 06, would my missing stuff that’s not showing up in TC, now show up?

Also, I was under the impression that once you used CMP to download stuff, you could export it all as a library to, say a DVD, for backup, in case my machine crashes (or I upgrade, which will happen this summer), I can re-install Trainz and have all my weeks of downloading back again without having to fight CMP again. Seems that the only way I saw to archive, was to bring items over, a few at a time from the right side of the CMP screen to the left, and then archive as a bunch.

Is there some folder in TC I can copy and then later re-copy into 06 that would accomplish the same thing?

Sure wish Auran would stipulate that Content uploaders upload ALL required dependencies at the time the content is posted. Should a creator wish to change or upgrade a dependency, the new one goes up as the old one comes down, OR the whole dang thing just gets "blacked out" on the DLS until the creator fixes/updates it and reloads it. It just makes Auran Customers angry to buy the product, be offered a DLS (or worse, charge for a FCT) that downloads unusable assets.

Frustrated, (but not enough to forget to thank you guys in advance!),

Quite a lot of 3rd party assets like level crossings, road and rail bridges and locos rely on dependencies that are in-built in TRS2006. If you only have TC many will not work because of this. These dependencies aren't available on the DLS, I had a reply from Help Desk which assured me that it was OK to upload a TC route with TRS2006 in-built content as "most people have TRS2006". My point in starting this thread was to get a reasonable explanation from Auran as to why CMP becomes more picky over so called faults? It is getting very unreasonable. It is Auran's job to make sur that dependencies are on the DLS, when I asked about if any 2006 in-built content would be included on the DLS, that's the reply I got, that most have 2006 anyway. A content creator can only upload his own work not dependencies as well. Maybe Auran TC owners to rush out and buy 2006.

I'm sorry, but CMP is a real "Piece" :p

I'm sure that well thought out, and obviously completely relevant, comment has helped the original poster to resolve his problems and helped him use Trainz a great deal. Thankyou so much for taking all that time to help someone else.

Mike.

It apparently has always been a problem with any TRS that some built-in items have faults even though they work. Look through some config files for TC built-ins and compare to similar items you install, the errors are there. There was one item, I think it was the first TC bridge not sure, if you open it for edit then commit without changes you get errors. You can also see config entries that should be there that are not, just add trainz-build 2.7 to a built-in and recommit to see. Part of the reason older content like interiors have problems is due to using terms that were no longer relevent back in 2004. The config entry "name" was obsolete then but built-in content used it and creators still used it sometimes. Old habits are hard to break.
