What? No Parade?

"Way off in the future" is January 10, 2011, which is about 7 weeks away.

Assuming it's released on schedule, of course, which is possible but unlikely. Worst case scenario it can't be more than 3 months off, and while I applaud the efforts of the Russian programmer I don't see any projected release date for his beta.

The server issue can be fixed by hosting your own server on your PC. If mutiplayer is anything I think it might be then we will have a friend list. So we can invite people to servers to play with you or others all ready there. Don't forget that if your PC is acting as the server then your the admin. You can make the password to give out to only some people and even block users.

Also, were did this rumor come from that all of the younger generation wants to do is fight and crash trains? That is kinda like saying, all elderly people complain about everything.

I don't know how many remember this screenshot (posted below). But it got deleated by N3V Games thinking that this was there Alpha version. So if they mistaken this image as the real thing then we have a pretty good picture of what it is.

Games Make More Money

Multiplayer is yet another step toward making Trainz a game instead of a simulation. It will tend toward RailWorks where you have posted scores for gamers to relish their success or ponder their lack of skill. Soon there will be a clamor for armaments on the trains to fend off monsters that you see the children killing to save the world in the hundreds of mindless games on the shelves.

Unfortunately, the Auran people see added revenue in multiplayer. What they do not understand that without the traditional blood-letting of the usual genre of games they may sell the original copy but Auran produced addons will find the audience has gone away in search of more action.

Multiplayer, produced in a way that does not detract from the primary program is harmless. However, if we start to see development of the SIMULATION wane and the GAME improve, it becomes time to move on.

Finally, if we look at multiplayer from the perspective of a typical railroad club rather than the blood & guts games there is a possible avenue for the more mature types to enjoy the feature. The virtual model can be built upon the club that has cooperatively built a complex layout somewhere and meets periodically to enjoy real life exercises of life on a railroad. Although there was some comment on small groups getting on multiplayer and excluding others, that is exactly what a club does until the applicant proves their intent and skills.

So you think real trains only involve a single person at a time?

This is a commentary on train simulation as a genre, and not multiplayer. We definitely disagree with you here. Certainly I've got nothing against shooters as a game genre and you're probably right that a good shooter will make more money than a good train sim. If we thought that there was no value in train simulation, however, then we wouldn't all be here.

Indeed it is.

Hi Everybody.
I have always viewed Trainz as a “creative hobby” which you engage in for relaxation and enjoyment. I feel that perhaps the majority of present users all look at the game in that same way.

A large part of the hobby is creating your own routes whether that is imaginary or based on present or past railway lines. It is something which you can sit down quietly to work on at the end of a long day or over a weekend. What you create is yours and you can decide if you wish to share that with others or keep your creation to yourself for nothing else than your own enjoyment.

Therefore I look at the new multiplayer side of Trainz as perhaps Auran/Nv3 reaching out to a new generation of users who may be looking for more and exciting activity from the game.

In the above I would wish them every success, but it is obvious from the posts on this thread that many of the present-day users would feel that they do not wish to be involved and therefore to a large degree a new audience will have to be found for the multiplayer game.
