What? No Parade?

[FONT=&quot]"This is the biggest news in Trainz history! Yes, Trainz is going Multiplayer!"

I thought this was the end goal for many members. I thought the forums would have been filled with joy by now!:hehe:

Hello Ed,

Glad you're still popping into the forum with your sense of humour......

I asked this very same question last week, however, it appears that not many Trainzers have jumped on the bandwagon, yet. I suppose it's the way of the world, with PC games in general these days, that the multiplayer aspect is a nice little revenue earner for some companies, you only have to look at the likes of Call of Duty, Mafia 2, etc, etc, that seem to be going down the same path, I'm a little doubtful that Trainz has that many fans to make it a viable proposition, but, we'll just have to wait and see......

After you with the popcorn, buddy.....:p

Join the club Vern. :hehe:

Plus before anyone asks...................NDA. :D

Actually, that's a point, maybe us anti-social misfits that keep getting banned from UKTS can have our own little MP corner (aka 'elitist club') where you have to be certifiably nuts and not like hanging around other people to join.

Of course, we'd have to find a n-sided room so we could all sit in the corner.

This sounds very interesting. One will obviously be able to choose who to play with, so the "someone will for sure smash all other trains"-scenario isn't very realistic. But then again, most new features is met with complains from the most dedicated fans, while it turns out to be a great addon for the great majority of players, who may not be commenting, or even reading, the forum (this is not the case only for Trainz, but seems to be the general rule in gaming business. Understand it those who can:o ).

Actually, I suspect that it could be beneficial to the game in many ways... HOWEVER, the reason why I've always felt that it's a bad idea is due to the fact that Auran don't have a lot of manpower, and there are more important aspects of trainz that need to be fixed first.

Also, we have no idea what they're going to let us do, but if you DO designate someone as a dispatcher, it removes any impetus for Auran to fix 'single player' dispatching, and we'll likely never see 'driver has to change all the switches' go away.

"Operating sessions" are somewhat popular in the model railroading world; I suspect it will be nice to include that part of the hobby as well.

I have yet to get my newsletter. Instead I found out on one of video gaming largest news sites, Kotaku.

Trainz hit Steam, Now it's on one of the major new carriers for gaming. Is it just me or has the last two to three years been a huge jump on pushing Trainz further and to more people?

Personally I'm excited for multiplayer. Who knows what it will bring. :udrool:

Great. Actually it's fantastic. Great would have done but apparently that's too short a message to show my enthusiasm for such an innovation...

Content creators will be busy creating attack locos as I type. Or not.

The Holy Grail

I've always considered a multiplay trainsim to be the Holy Grail.

Jim Ward - just consider the possibilities on, say, Krashnburne.

A group of maybe 4 of us. One of us is the Dispatcher issuing operation instruction to the other 3, working out where trains wil cross each other and setting the switches (could be stressful!).

The others haul the consists, set them out in yards then seek the Dispatcher's permission to join the main line again.

For us interactive and switching buffs this could be the ultimate.

phil, if you ever do that, that would be awesome!
now we have no need for the ai!!!!!!! there getting on my nerve and always crashing my trains (no joke)

I don't know whether I should point out that they can barely keep the DLS online, never mind an interactive game.

Blackie

Nice idea Phil,

However, the thing is, you'd have to set up your own separate little group to play with, unless, of course, you'd want to invite the younger generation who will squabble, fight, and do everything in their powers to override your demands, instructions, and want to crash every train in their command and ruin the whole process.
Call me cynical if you wish, but, as there will be no moderators about as such, who will be in charge of this fiasco, and how many members will end up getting banned for being stupid, abusive and not taking things seriously ??
And of course, there are also the problems of where the servers are going to be placed, many gamers on websites across the world complain that they can never get on-line when they want to, there are too many cheats on the games anyway, and the lag effect caused by internet interference will undoubtedly mean that x playing in Australia is 5 minutes behind y playing in Canada, and for that reason alone, would render this game useless, as time is of the essence when operating trains to a specific timetable.

Sorry to be honest, but, have the powers that be really thought this idea through properly.....

The server issue can be fixed by hosting your own server on your PC. If mutiplayer is anything I think it might be then we will have a friend list. So we can invite people to servers to play with you or others all ready there. Don't forget that if your PC is acting as the server then your the admin. You can make the password to give out to only some people and even block users.

Also, were did this rumor come from that all of the younger generation wants to do is fight and crash trains? That is kinda like saying, all elderly people complain about everything.

I don't know how many remember this screenshot (posted below). But it got deleated by N3V Games thinking that this was there Alpha version. So if they mistaken this image as the real thing then we have a pretty good picture of what it is.

Well, I asked on the facebook page;

"Public server, or the type where you play with a friend or friends on a LAN?"

And whoever Trainz Simulator is answered;

"Multiplayer will operate through the existing iTrainz network. Participants in a Multiplayer Session may be in the same room or across the world from each other."

Dunno what the iTrainz network is but it remains to be seen if you can choose who you play with or not.

At Phil, I really don't see the need for one guy to sit out the session as a dispatcher, if all the trains are driven by humans and all the signals and other trains are visible it cuts the potential for collision way down on a freight route. Possibly one guy could act as a dispatcher part time while operating his own train, but if everyone is communicating and obeying signals you wouldn't really need one. However it's done some type of simple communication between players would be desirable. Without it you could still use whistle signals but texting would allow for stuff like track warrants and clearances.

Until we see HOW this multiplayer mode will be implemented, it's all idle speculation but it's still fun to spin theories and conspiracies.

Me, I have no interest in it. Inside Trainz, I am lord and master and the last thing I want is for someone half a world away telling me if and when I can drive my train in my map.

I just hope that this stays an option and that normal Trainz development will not be affected.

i personaly think that theyn will add with the main screen where it says, driver, railyard ect. and that you will still have the option to play as yourself with the ai

iTrainz is the built in web browser in TS2009WBE and TS2010EE. Its also the built in chat.

Cheers,

Moin,

If i read it right, we will get a public beta test, so everyone who have TS 2010 can try out whether that is interesting for him or not and can choose, if he will use multiplayer version anytime when finished or not.
Seems a good idea for me, can´t wait to try it out.

Good news if it does go through iTrainz. Meaning they would relax the restrictions on packet send rate. Meaning our dear TRam_ and his accomplices finally can get to build the real multiplayer. Other then that, not interested. As martinvk says. I am the Master and Commander of my own Trainz map.

Auran , spending their time and effort on this , as their ass goes down the Loo !

Tell me why ? ---DLR
