Only for 2010 I'll bet! Leaves out the other 80% of the users.

Well, yeah he did mention that. It would be interesting to know the percentage of users currently using each version. I'm sure 2010 is smaller than the rest, but it's use will increase as the use of the older programs are restricted...

It's the 'end goal' for a very vocal very small minority of users. The rest of us foresee the problems and childishness[1] that will result from it, and don't care for it.

But that's life

Edit, forgot my footnote:

[1] It will very likely be invite-only, so the few people that will be interested in it will do away with the childish crowd that just want to crash trains by insisting on a very small cabal of elite trainzers that they allow onto their MP routes. So the net effect will be that most people won't be allowed to play 'with the big boys', and it'll just further alienate many.

I'm sure N3V will preserve the same family values during gameplay as they enforce on these forums.

Respect to those who want it or asked for it, but I've never seen the need for multiplayer in any game let alone a train sim.

Then I am a nasty, twisted, anti-social misfit...:'(

Do I denote a hint of something or is it my nature to read into things what is not there ?;)
By the way nice to hear from you.

Well it could be an interesting venture. We have been thinking about ways to do this for the guys who like to do prototypical operations. I would be very interested in playing with a few other users maybe up to 10? You could have a good bit of fun running a short line operation, or maybe doing some Class 1 yard work with a dispatcher? I can totally see how it could easily get out of hand for those that want to recreate "Unstoppable" or simply kamikaze into other players, and that would probably ruin it for quite a few. But if you had operating groups that used a specific layout that could be something, for instance you had a TPR group that ran Tidewater, and another group that ran Clovis or something like that. The old Multiplayer could have been pretty neat as well, but the server issues ruined that for me. I would send trains to a friend only to have them appear weeks later unannounced... Either way I personally am very interested in seeing how this is set up.

Shhhh...... the children are still sleeping.

Have fun,:)

Doesn't sound like much fun at all. And it's way off in the future. I would rather have our own coding guru make the multiplayer.

In other words, you had better buy 2010 before Jan 10th if you want this "feature". Personally I do not, and I think this is just a gimmick to get you to buy 2010, I'll wait thank you very much.

In some respects this could be a neat thing, as others have said, and as Mike says, this would be great for a dispatcher and multiple trains running.

The concern I have is bandwidth and data requirements for the players. I imagine that everyone would need the same assets and a copy of the route in order to colaborate. The the huge number of assets that some route have (including mine), this could mean that it wold a long time to load the route before playing.

I'm keeping an open mind - it may well be pretty interesting.

Note - it is only a beta, so it's hardly an arm-up-the-back sales exercise.....

I guess you shouldn't order the box version through the mail then....:hehe:

I think it's a great idea, and Auran would be insane if they didn't do it. Connectivity is the big thing now, and if Auran want to still be around in a few years time I think this is exactly the right move for them.

The only interesting possibility, in my opinion, would be an shared "world" with the option to be a dispatcher for stations/industries ( station master ) and drivers for the trains. Although I am no multiplayer fan at all I think we should wait with a verdict after we have been able to test it.

My oldest granddaughter recently announced that she's pregnant, but since I won't be a great-grandpa until next July there's not much point going crazy right now. Same here, the announcement says January 10, new announcement January 18th they found a major bug and can't release yet, January 31 they announce it's ready for download, February 1 the servers crash. :hehe: I asked over at facebook and apparently it's gonna use Itrainz, so the 2-4 player LAN game I was specifically looking for won't be available. I'll let you know how much joy I have when I actually see it, it IS good news that the developers saw the need for it, but nothing to get excited about yet.

I'm curious if this, after the beta, will be a free add on to TRS10. Or if it will be a built in component for the next version of TRS. There are a lot of details I'd like to know more about. But I did jump for joy when I read that. And I cant wait to get my hands on it, if I can get in the beta when they announce it.

This sounds very interesting. One will obviously be able to choose who to play with, so the "someone will for sure smash all other trains"-scenario isn't very realistic. But then again, most new features is met with complains from the most dedicated fans, while it turns out to be a great addon for the great majority of players, who may not be commenting, or even reading, the forum (this is not the case only for Trainz, but seems to be the general rule in gaming business. Understand it those who can:o ).
