I tried changing a horn on a loco and now I get this??

Message: TADInternalCopyAsset> unable to move files 'c:\program files (x86)\n3v games\ts12/UserData/local\hash-9b\copytempsrck6c0avno172' to dest path 'c:\program files (x86)\n3v games\ts12/UserData/local\hash-9b\kuid 101046 100909'

Error: Failed to commit changes to asset <kuid:101046:100909> due to file access error

I never got that before when I changed it...And now I do???

Any reason why it came up now and not before???

This has happened to me too before. Strange, I never had this until recently. I just reverted the changes and forgot about it.

You should not be messing with hash files. If you are trying to edit a built-in asset, forget about it. They are locked and protected. To fix it, open for edit in explorer and "revert".

I've seen that before, and I've had to exit from Content Manager and go back in again in order to edit the asset. For some reason the file is locked by the program, and there is no way to edit it because CM has control of the file.

Can I make a few things clear here...

Firstly, just because somethingcan be opened for edit, it doesn't mean it should be. In the case of built-in content, some content has been locked so it cannot be recommitted, and some content contains quite severe errors that only surface when it's committed.

As for the .ja files, directly modifying these will render your game unpatchable.

The moral of the story: if you must work with built-in content, clone it first, then work on the clone.

In most cases it's a problem with real time virus scanners. Disable it for a moment, commit and reactivate the scanner.

I have the same problem if the antivirus software is running. Try to disable times. For me, it has helped.

c:\program files (x86)

Got Windows 7 or Vista that's the worst place to install ANY modifiable program, because it's the one folder that UAC protects against changes like a junkyard dog with rabies. I know it defaults to installing there, but it should be re-directed somewhere else. Copy or move the \N3V\TS12 folder somewhere else, ANYWHERE else outside the c:\program files (x86) folder, create a shortcut to the new location of trainz.exe, set the shortcut to run as administrator.

Doing as sniper297 suggests helps alot. However, editing built-in assets is no-no. Some of them will permit cloning the asset for editing, but be prepared for a long list of errors, most of which are fixable.
