What is this?

The handles used to be all detachable to prevent unauthorized persons from operating the loco ... now most handles are pinned, and a computer password is needed to run a loco

Why do they make the reverser detachable? Is it so they don't hit it on accident and change it?

The reverser is only removable when it is centered (in neutral). When it is removed the throttle and dynamic brake levers are locked.

There aren't any pinned handles. The automatic and independent brake handles simply aren't designed to be removable as they were in the past.

Never heard of or seen any loco that requires a password to operate. Mechanical forces can enter a password to obtain elevated commands for troubleshooting and repair.

Not true, and there are several locomotives still around without that kind of computer control anyway. I have never heard of one that requires a password to operate.
