I am very much disappointed with trainz . As I have 200GB contents present in Local folder. I am doing Extended database repair. I took 17 hrs still uncomplete.

What is this .

AURAN PROGRAMMING IS THE POOREST among other game programmers.

Asset database repair

I am a game user. Auran should have to do some improvement . e.g THAY MIGHT SHOW THE TIME IT WILL TAKE TO REPAIR DATABASE OR TIME LEFT

etc etc.

VERY POOR

My simple answer(guess) is that each Extended repair is different for different computers.
I have a decent computer with a quad core intel cpu,4 gig of ram, three hdds.
My userdata folder in trainz has about 60gb worth of data. It takes this comp about 2-3 hour to do a repair. If I tried to do that on my laptop(trainz is not installed but if it were) it would probably take days. (specs Pentium m 1.7cpu , 1gb ram 1 hdd(ide))
From my perspective it would not be easy for the programmers to make an accurate
progress bar because of each machine being different.

Just so you know when a database repair is done the program checks the status of each item installed. So if you have 200gb worth of installed data then it will definitely take a very long time.

Again this is my simple answer.

If you don't like it Vinny, then you can leave
Auran won't be missing you
Sorry for being blunt, but you can stop hating Auran

Hey guys, aren't we being a little hard on vinny? Until recently, I would constantly have to either force EDRs to happen. Or they would just happen automatically at least every two weeks. For me, they take about 3 hours, and they are very annoying.

It just seems like a lack of stability compared to 09 which never did this to me.

Really though, I am sure that it will be fixed with a patch eventually, but I do see where his frustration is coming from.

I found that Trainz (TS2010_SP3) was doing an EDR almost every day. Then I realized that I was causing the EDR to run by shutting down TadDaemon before it was finished, and closed on its own. Since I have stopped doing that, Trainz has not initiated an EDR in more than a month. I did one manually the other day though.

So, make sure you are not shutting down your computer before TadDaemon is finished.
You can check on it very easily by ticking the "Show Database process windows" on the Developer tab under Options.
You will then see icons for all process windows on your task bar. Don't shut down your computer until all have closed, and don't shut down any of the processes manually.

Hope this helps

That is true - TADDaemon does take a few minutes after Trainz has closed before it closes (I've actually discovered it closes when it detects no further activity)

Also, apart from the faulty asset check, the other parts of the process usually give a numerical indication of progress (usually in the form of (xxx/yyy) where xxx is the current amount of assets in that section that are done, and yyy is the total number of assets for that section (removed/added/modified/obsolete etc)

quote from trainz2010vinny... 'As I have 200GB contents present in Local folder. I am doing Extended database repair. I took 17 hrs still uncomplete.'

200GB in local content file, that seems a lot, you must have the entire contents of the DLS in there?

I thought my local file is big at 23GB! It takes approx 40 minutes to do EDR (E8400 o/c to 3.6GHz)

Hi BLACKWATCH,

I think your quote is mixed up. you seem to have added some of my post to trainz2010vinny post in the quote.

Just shows how crap TS 2010 is, even MS. Windows doesnt take that long to reinstall, and that's a complete system program.

Yes, that's right because a single user making a statement about how useless something you don't have is, would qualify you to make such a profound statement.

For god's sake, he's got 200GB of assets in his Trainz Assets Database, that would take ages in any version of Trainz if he had to rebuild the entire database! Why don't you actually buy and try out TS10 before witlessly slagging it off in future? :o

And can I suggest to trainz2010vinny that he culls his Local folder? No one can need or make use of 200GB of assets!

Database close to Gb25, rebuild under 10 minutes, what you need is some Raptors and a lot of RAM.
OK, I have a Raptor and loads of RAM and about 25GB of assets and an EDR takes about 30 mins for me, so maybe TS10 does take a bit longer than earlier versions? But, clearly, 10 times as many assets would take a lot longer!

What inducement have I got to buy it, when most of the posts about it lead me to believe it's a hunk of junk at present ?

For christsake, some are even complaining that the patch to fix it, actually breaks it. :o

Those who don't have a problem don't complain. Therefore your argument is pointless given you don't actually have any idea as to what proportion of users are complaining.

If you don't want to buy it, that's your choice, nobody is forcing you but coming on here and telling everyone how bad it is with zero experience of the product (like me before you point out that I don't have it either) is like me posting that tonight, your dinner tasted like sheep's winnets even though you may well have had the best roast lamb ever made. How am I to know?

I'm not having a go at you, I'm just trying to highlight the flaw in your assertion.

You are not to know, because nobody has posted about all the faults with my dinner on an internet forum ...............................

............. unlike they have done with TS2010. :hehe:
