What is the largest asset??

I was just setting here waiting on something to DL and I would like to know if anyone knows what is the largest asset on the DLS? (I am talking about how much grid space and height it takes up, not file size.) Is it an industry or scenery?

Leopold lane linear quad is fairly large, scenery object of 48 terrace houses with front and back gardens.

As I recall, my suspension bridge is about 4000 ft long. I'll have to check and see what the length is. Bendorsey may have some longer bridges though.
Mike

Edit: It's 4,035 ft long

This is purely a guess, but wouldn't the airport come close? I haven't seen the terrace houses, but they sound very interesting indeed. I'm not trying to start anything here JW, but to me these are the sorts of things I'd love to see listed in the Directory, just so people can look at them. Unfortunately I don't have the bandwidth to explore and have to depend on people supplying me with information such as the location of screenshots etc.

I think I have a few over 4000 ft (tho I'd have to look to be sure) and there is the 7-mile bridge on the overseas keywest extension of the FEC. Its a combination of fixed parts connected by (literally) miles of splines.

I guess this is something James Tellman should be adding to his Trainz Book of Records. If I was judging the show, which I'm not, I'd be inclined to focus on area rather than length. Splines would definitely have to be excluded, because they are after all, splines which can be made to any length. If splines were allowed, the poor old Titanic at over 800 feet would have no hope of competing against a humble picket fence.

I agree about splines not counting (but I hadda try, lol).

I think my longest conventional bridge is my Kansas City Southern Bridge 1 at 8547 ft.

Some of my construction guides are quite long. The Angle Guide is over 10km long. As for in game objects, the HSL Moerdijkbrug, the high speed rail bridge south of Rotterdam is 1970m long. Thats 6463 ft for the metrically challenged. :o

However, on TRS2006, I remember there being some very small plants/bushes from the USA or German region.

I have a 3-poly rivet (looks terrible tho). A 5-poly rivet looks a lot better but I rarely can put rivets (good looking or not) on bridges since so many are necessary they crank the total poly count thru the roof (bring your video card to a screeching halt, lol).

Hold on folks - I have a longer bridge. My Tay River Bridge 1 is not only longer its more complicated (13,560 ft long, consists of 54 separate image files, and has 56 track attachment points).

Is that one object? In TS2009 even my 1970m bridge tends to wink-out if I get too far from the origin (insertion point). If you can keep the whole 4km + bridge in view in TS2009, what are your screen settings?

Since something with zero size would be as small as it can get, all the invisible objects would be the smallest. :hehe:

Yes - its one complete object. It has 90 degree curves at each end (reverse S) so it has a smaller overall footprint then if it were straight. I can't remember if its completely visible in 2004 (what I work in) or not. I rarely run Trainz to run a train so it doesn't matter to me. As for settings - I haven't a clue. Sorry. It replaces an earlier bridge that fell down. I made it too.

When I first got 2006 I seem to remember running a built-in monorail route and it had a suspension bridge that seemed to go on forever even at 500 mph. That must be longer then any of mine.

There is a HUGE Suspension bridge somewhere in Time/Space/DLS... It's White and Green, and has these Big Approach Spans.

I believe it's on the Death Valley Route on teh DLS too.

You're thinking of the Big Mac bridge that was made from a real road bridge in Michigan. I'm not sure how long it is, but it is definitely tall, as in the camera when totally zoomed out & as tall as possible can't even reach the top of the suspension towers. There is also the Fourth Bridge on the same Death Valley route, but it isn't quite as long.

What about a drum of very thin coaxial cable? When unwound, it will go to the moon and back. Does that count?
