What is in downloads?

I am new to all this.
I have Trainz12 and see many "Packages" that can be purchased and downloaded - Blue Comet for example.
The content is described such as what kind of train cars are in the package.
But are there any "sessions" or route games ("challenges") associated with such downloads?
I don't want to just drive the train around the countryside.

The main payware packages that contain routes and sessions are the Settle and Carlisle, Murchinson 2, and Classic Cabon City packs.

I do a search for Free Routes in Central and it brings me to a page that lists routes for a price - no "free" are listed.
How do you find the free ones?

Have you tried the routes on the Download Station ? Access the free content via 'Content' on the Trainz launch menu.
