I have my trainz to save every 15 minutes while working on a route I'm building.
But if it crashes when you go back to it nothing has been saved and it's back to the start. So what is it saving because unless you save and come out of the game it does not save a thing.
There'll be a route at the top of your screen called "Autosave" your crashed route should be in there, saved up to the last Save point before your PC crashed.
Rawhide, it shouldn't make any difference since TRS2010 (presumably) incorporates the features of TRS2009. If you open your "Surveyor" page the Routes are arranged alphabetically and the one at the top should be "Autosave". Assuming you set TRS2010 to Autosave your Route should be duplicated in there. Prior to TRS2009 I had TRS2006 which Autosaved my Route but NOT in the event of a PC crash. As it was I spent 3 hours working on my Route and accidentally cut my power supply off. I spent an hour redoing what I had done and only then thought to look at Autosave and found that my 3 hours work was safe and sound.
If it is in Autosave you'll be asked if you want to Save it and you should save it under it's original name in which case the existing Route will be updated.
No worries. I don't use TRS2006 any more but my old PC was a bit unstable and I got so used to losing several month's work that when it happened the last time I just sort of blinked then staggered off to the pub to get VERY drunk :'(
trainz is a bit like british rail you never know whats coming. Like british rail it can drive us to drink. But we love it and thanks to people on this forum we love it more. I wonder if you could help me is it possible to not have the traffic on the roads but the ones I want to put there instead. Because my setting is in the old days and modern cars dont look right.
I would love to know the best way to backup my work. I have been copying files in the local folder onto another drive as backup. Any help would be most appreciated.
What the previous poster said about saving as a CDP is true BUT.....
For several months now I have been rebuilding my PC with the result that literally the only things left from the old one are the DVD ROM and the DVD RW drives.
I've always saved Trainz in it's entirety (I bought it as a digital download) to an ultra reliable mini HDD which I bought like 5 years ago when they were new, small and expensive (about £80 for 40GB) when I do anything major to my PC.
So I saved it then hacked the old apart.....and I DROPPED the mini HDD! It hums but now I can't access it's contents!
All was not lost because I had emailed my routes to a friend as CDP's and not deleted them from my e-mail box so I restored them from there.
Unfortunately when I completed the last stage of the rebuild (a new HDD) I found that Trainz would not install from my new replacement mini HDD and when I tried to re-download (3 hours) it failed.
So I would say to you (if you bought it as a digital download)
1) Save TRS2009 or 2010 to a DVD IN IT'S ENTIRETY
2) Also save it to a mini HDD if you have one.
3) Save your work as a CDP at the end of each day you've been working on it to both a DVD+/-RW AND a mini HDD.
DVD's can crack and mini HDD's can get dropped so it's better to be safe than sorry.
BTW the traffic you need is called "UK Age Of Steam" KUID 84912:1200 from the DLS but I can't remember how to set in Trainz and at the moment I am Trainzless.
Hi lewisner,
I have downloaded the age of steam I opened the config in my venue and changed britain to the age of steam and you've done it again not a modern car in sight. Now your not only good but very good go and have a pint you have more than earned it.
Lolz. A small item of good news is that last night my mention of my mini HDD prompted me to ask about it on computerhope.com The guy there suggested taking it out of it's enclosure and putting it in another one. I'd already took it out but I searched the Internet for an answer and 2 guys said you can put it in a sealed plastic bag and put it in the FREEZER for 2 hours! Apparently if you do this then IMMEDIATELY connect to your PC you have enough time to download the data off it but it will probably never work again after thawing out.
Another guy suggested lightly tapping the centre of the drive with your knuckles and......IT WORKED! The little LED's lit up and I've been able to get my stuff off it.
The moral is...It never does any harm to ask.
I have found that when you use age of steam when you come to lay track it will not show up a junction. I have found one called "uk new cars" but no instructions. I have tried a few things but no luck. With hard drives if you take it to a computer shop some of them will try and recover your data it could be worth a try.
"From old Lewisner" Not sure what you mean by it won't show up at a junction? If you mean ready made "Object" type road junctions I don't use them anyway - I usually just join one road spline to the other and if necessary put spline points to form a curve. Then the traffic flows from one road to the other.I've only just managed to rescue TC3 from my mini HDD so I can't really do screenies yet.
