What is a friend?

Me. I used to really enjoy my own company, until we fell out!

LOL!

Zachary,

You also need one of those for MySpace for it to be totally effective!

Cheers

:D

Ha, I remember when MySpace was the big social networking site a few years ago. But Facebook and Twitter in recent years have completely taken over that spot and have enslaved the world. So I guess I could make a "MySpace" sign like the above two, but you don't hear about MySpace much anymore; it's all Facebook and Twitter

<snip> ...I'm a social network hater as well - my sister showed up here in town and I had to yell at her for posting pics of us every 5 min from her "smart" phone on Facebook (she's 12 yrs younger)... <snip>

Reminds me of that outrageous Verizon Wireless commercial involving two social-networking-obsessed parents tapping away on their new smartphones and their two children complain: the daughter complains to the mother about posting "I LOVE YOU" over her Facebook "wall" and the son complains to the father "Cool it with the Twitter updates, okay?!" Father: "I'm sit-ting on the pa-tio." (as he types that as a post on Twitter.) Son: "I know you're sitting on the patio." :p

Regards,

Zachary.

hi mates
i agree about facebook and so on
our kids and their friends love it. they post constantly.

me, not on it
never will be

its not hard to find stuff out about people, if you got the know
with the social sites its dead easy.
you know what they eat, wear and do

not for me thanks

my privacy belongs to me
and so do my friends
not many of them left now though

for me, my friends and mates is a get together
whether to get drunk, shoot each other up with bazookas or go into town and walk along the riverside walk watching the "moving scenery" as they run past.

as above was mentioned, to me a friend is one who will be there when i need him, her.
just like i am there for them

sorry about waffling on

cheers

I could use a good "Bazooka shot" right about now!;)

I always think of the movie "Red Dawn" when the attackers checked the records in the towns to see who owned a firearm and who did not. In the future when they are trying to track you down, they'll just check Facebook or Twitter: "He's hiding in the restroom in the basement Sir! At least that's what his last "Tweet" said."

hey ed

schooner of your fave cold ale n a shotglass of fiery scots brew

Don't think they're not on to that..... happens all the time. A woman I know just got in serious trouble after her abusive boyfriend got out of jail ( the only reason she still has a job or house is he's on a restraining order and not allowed around) She posts recent pics of him and her on Facebook and guess who saw them..... now he's locked back up and she's homeless........ DUMB@$$

Let's not take this off topic please.

To respond to the OP, it seems that these days, "friend" has different meanings, depending on the context. For example, "Friend" on Facebook page means that someone allows you to post on their Facebook page. On the other hand, "friend" means someone who is truly a friend. Times are changing all.

Back on topic; I'm a person who uses the Friends list. However I use it to control who can PM (or email) me. As I've had times (it tends to happen in waves) where I get a bunch PMs from Gimmie Pigs demanding that I send them things they've seen in screenshots, I even had them demand stuff from other people's screeshots that I don't have. When I get a Gimmie PM switch over to Friend-only PMs for a couple months. The Friends list feature I use to add people I've been in contact with for regular discussions & such over PMs, this allows any conversations we've been having to not get interrupted. I think of it more like a 'Contact List' rather then a friends list, but I guess they call it that to be cool and Facebook-sounding.

LOL I only have facebook since me and my high school friends AKA 'The Crew', as I call them, like to keep in touch after we got out of high school. Facebook should be called Trashbook since there's too much drama, but what in the name o' the blinkin' Scottish highlands is Twitter? A place where you talk like a bird? Sorry to carry this a little off topic, was trying to reply to a specific person and ended up hitting quick reply instead of the reply with qoute darnit.

I agree with Ray, the OP, I have never known what the added sections in our profile were for exactly, friend, 2 lots of groups, one is a permission group, what the hell is that all about.......:hehe:

And according to my teenage niece I'm now a GOB = Grumpy Old Bugger.....:hehe:

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.

I happen to be over there too. I joined because I belong to a museum and they setup a group and wanted me to join. Then I a storm chaser friend of mine started putting up all his tour information and pictures over there, so I've hung around.
What's I do like about it is, you can pick and choose who you consider friends. My FB friends are my true friends and not a stranger who wants to be my friend. My friends range from fellow railfans. concert pianists, to storm chasers.

Hi Ron,

That's interesting. I get none of that garbage. Oh the app requests which I ignore and that's about it. No spam or anything else and very few PMs unless I start them my self.

Have you ever considered a severe storm chasing trip in the US? I chase with Roger Hill who is one of the owners. Check out Silverlining Tours. www.silverliningtours.com. The tours are 6 to 10 days long and there's plenty to see besides storms. Like 150-car freight trains racing across the Great Plains at 65 mph! :D
