A transfer table is used to transfer locos and cars to adjacent tracks, mostly at repair facilities. It is sort of like a turntable...except it moves only longitudanally.

There is still one in Altoona at the Lumax freight car repair shop. A dinky mine loco pushs cars about, and moves with the cars on the transfer table, at Lumax Industries. Altoona also had another one, where the roundhouse is now located. It saves on the length of yards, as no turnouts are involved, and simplifies switching movements to a 50' area, several tracks wide.

If I'm understanding what you're talking about, a transfer table is similar to a turntable for a roundhouse; however, instead of rotating around a central pivot point to align a loco with a particular bay in the roundhouse, the transfer table moves laterally (in a line) to align with a bay in the maintenance facility. In other words, both ends of the movable track bridge moves instead of there being a central pivot point rotating in a circle.

hello to all 3

thanks for the info and your time to answer this forum so I guess theres no industry goods that are involved here.

rweber95, that is correct. We used to have one at Eveleigh workshops in Redfern, NSW and we still have one (preserved in working order) at Ipswich Workshop Museum in Queensland.
