What causes this?

About three hours into my session, I start seeing this. What causes it? I'm using TRS2006.

My computer specs are:
Windows XP - Service Pack 3
Intel Core i7 CPU
920 @ 2.67 Ghz
3 Gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon 4870 512MB

...bad game design?:hehe:

If I had to make a guess the program's not releasing reserved video memory as it should, and eventually the card runs out of room to buffer graphic textures. If you save the session and restart Trainz do the textures come back? Sometimes you gotta do a cold boot of the machine to free up that memory. Depends on the video card.

I too at one time experienced a similar problem with all my track turning black. It seemed to clear up after a re-start...and usually was caused by my last asset that I fooled around with, modifying textures and such.

You are running out of system or video memory. If you have

-keepallrescources

in trainzoptios.txt try removing it, and/or add or edit

-ResourceMemory=xxxx

where xxxx is half your RAM up to a 2gig machine or give Trainz 2 gig if you have 3 or more....

HNY Ed!

Trainzoptions

Dermmy here's mine:

-DepthBits=24
-StencilBits=8
-fullscreen
-Jet=bin
-cabinfov=65
-driverfov=55
-DefaultAutoMip=none
-ResourceMemory=2048
-cabinfov=74.7975
-driverfov=63.9863

Does this look okay?

Dave: You are missing... -freeintcam It will give you great camera movement inside of the cab.. and can look outside too!

Specifying two different values for cabinfov and driverfov is a definite oops, and if you revert to defaults you will draw fewer polys, therefore lessen the graphics load.

The second pair seem to be to suit a widescreen monitor, if so leave 'em, but get rid of the other pair. I'm confused though because if you need to specify the fov you should also be specifying -width and -height. If Trainz has your monitor resolution in the 'settings' menu do not specify anything in trainzoptions. If it doesn't you should be specifying height width and fov.

-fastmenus
-nolog

are two I would add, also think about

-disablecarz=1 which removes road traffic from all maps and might help with the loss of textures, it will remove a good few polys and animation. I used to run with that when I had a lower spec machine than my present rig, although I still mostly go with traffic toggled 'Off' in Surveyor. I gotta get around to making a new region...

And take Ilebrez' advice, I wouldn't be without freeintcam.

Another one to add is:

-ShowKuids

This shows the selected KUID in the bottom right hand of the screen, when in Surveyor.

 Just a reminder that adding any thing to the trainzoptions.txt is Not surported by Auran or so i am all ways getting told.

I won't take traffic off the roads because that's one thing I love about TRAINZ. Makes it seem more realistic to me.

And I'm not too crazy about freeintcam either... seems a little unstable at times, IMHO.

But thanks for all the advice. I appreciate it.
