What are the computer requirments Trans2009:World Builder?

An honest question about 2010. My other half can get it on sale and with a discount through work. I can get up to 40 FPS with 2009 on my machine and if 2010 will get higher I might give it a go for the price.

I just don't want to be stuck with the extended overnight data base repairs. I notice with 2009, it takes forever to do repairs, up to several hours with the CPU usage maxed out.

last extended repair I did on my 35+GB of installed stuff took about 2hrs, which compared to what 2006 took is very good. The latest patch for 2009 sped up the process alot!

Thanks Peter, but that is the rub with 2009. The database repairs are to frequent. Nothing worse than having an hour or two to kill in Surveyor but get knocked out by this. Aggravating at best especially since the computer Trainz is on never sees the internet.

The other half can get 2010 for close to 50% off. I just don't want to play the database game which seems more frequent with it. I got hooked on the 5m terrain and signaling in 2009. Got unhooked with the constant DB repairs.

I stay with 2004 because it just works. Start up is initially slow, but it starts every time. I would like to gain a few FPS over 2009 but don't want to be stopped because the game needs to fix itself.

I think you might be confused. The Data base repair (update) that 2009 performs when CM2 is started takes about a minute or less (at least on my machine which is far from being a powerhouse). On the other hand, performing an EDR (Extended Database Repair) that YOU initiate to repair corrupted assets can take an hour or two depending on the size of your local folder (where the downloaded assets are stored). EDR's can do more harm than good (my experience) so I do not plan on another one for a long time.

Not confused at all Tomturban.
A few weeks ago, I installed some rolling stock, of course it had errors. I fixed about half and left half a dozen or so. A few days later, I went in to fix the rest and CM locked up with the please wait message and the CPU maxed out. About an hour or so later, CM started working and the six assets with errors showed error free. Bonus.
A few days later, went into Surveyor and and had the rolling stock showing in red. O.K., back to CM to see what was up. Another hour or so with the please wait, the errors were back and a few more with additional attachment point errors.
Happens random without a data base rebuild from me. That's why I ask. Aggravating.

Make sure you wait about 10 minutes after shutting down Trainz before you turn your computer off. This can cause database errors as Trainz Daemon and TrainzUtil are still running and shutting down the database.

I have found a defrag speeds up the startup and shutdown process of CM and Trainz, and in general any database operations that are done.

Always wait for a bit before shutting down.
Computer Trainz is on never sees the internet.
I defrag often.
Trainz is the only program loaded on this machine aside from MSTS.
All downloads are on another machine with the antivirus installed. Haven't downloaded anything for months though. All content is well over a year old since downloading.
I also wipe the drive clean and reinstall windows at least twice a year whether it needs it or not.

I still get these lock-ups and never know the outcome. I like the disappearing errors. It all comes full circle though and adds more when it acts up. I do let the program run it's course and never stop it.

Very frustrating and 2009 is about to be wiped out for the last time. Like I said, nothing worse than having time to kill and stuck waiting.

 Hello Dave, if you hate waiting, why do you kill working versions of Windows, just to go through the process of reinstalling the applications?

Why not connect your computer to the Internet to allow Trainz to call home?

Yes, a capable Internet Security Software is necessary.

The next time you reinstall Trainz, install to C:\TS2009. The default is C:\Program Files\Auran\TS2009, placing Trainz under Windows Protective Services, requiring additional time to access the Internet.

Allow Trainz.exe, CCP.exe, Content Manager.exe, Launcher.exe, JAConverter.exe, jpatchl-w32.exe, TrainzDiag.exe, TADDaemon.exe & CrashReport.exe to access the Internet.

I actually had the last patch applied automatically(imagine the wait that took), all of a sudden, I was at version 44088, build 3.3.

Most all problems with Trainz involve a problem with how the client computer is configured regarding Trainz & the Internet...next is with faulty content, constantly being upgraded even as we speak!
