Weatherproof Tunnels?

I'm looking for a tunnel to use for a subway that is "weatherproof" - that is, where rain or snow doesn't appear inside it when it's underground. I know there is a waterproof tunnel for under rivers, but not weatherproof. I have a commuter line that runs both above and below ground at different points in the layout (as well as exclusively above ground trains) and would like to be able to set up scenarios with different weather conditions. Does anyone know of a tunnel that would permit this?

Thanks!

(lol) It would be nice wouldn't it? I don't think it exists, any more then a weatherproof cab...

So basic.

So stupid.

(Not you, the programmers)

Yeah, but cabs are weatherproof! Unless you have a leak in your roof? ;) I wonder what it would take to make a weatherproof tunnel? :mop:

Crack Cover looks like it's a cosmetic fix for something. I'll experiment, but I don't think it acts as "umbrella," so to speak.

Crack cover is cosmetic, fixes where tunnel splines have small cracks in the joints.

I don't use rain, so maybe I'm wrong, but I recall it falling inside the cab....

I just double checked and there is no rain or snow inside the cabs of most locomotives - at least the ones I have in my layout (mostly JointedRail). It wouldn't surprise me if some did "leak" like that, however. I did notice on an LIRR cab car that the rain does not fall inside the cab, but does fall inside the passenger area.

But yes, this is indeed one of those things I would have thought would be intuitive that folks would like - especially for prototypical operations. Looks like an opportunity for some developer!

Andi06 made some 'waterproof' tunnels. I think they date back to TRS2004 or before. You might have to browse the black pages DLS and check all the older version boxes to find what you want.

I have Andi06's waterproof tunnel. It's "waterproof" in that it can be used under rivers without the water effect appearing outside the cab window in the tunnel. What I'm looking for, however, is "weatherproof" - so if the weather is set to rain or snow, you don't see it raining or snowing from the cab window of a train inside the tunnel. I'm guessing this has never been made?

That is a problem that has existed since weather was introduced to trainz. It has always rained inside of the tunnels.
It is problem that only N3V can fix. 2 companys and almost a decade later it still is not fixed.

Put a trigger at the start of the tunnel that sets the weather in the session to "Sunny, no changes" and put a trigger at the end of the tunnel that puts it back to "changing". Make the triggers only respond if the driver controlled by the player activates it, so AI trains don't influence it.

I thought that a waterproof tunnel would work, but I guess not.

Kenny is right. It's a technical issue that only they can resolve. This has to do with how the tunnels are created. They are really only a single-sided polygon object with normals flipped inside to handle the textures. How to stop it from weathering inside a tunnel is out of our hands unless we follow what oknotsen mentioned. Hmm... I might try that myself.

That's a good idea. Not ideal, but certainly better than leaking tunnels!

I am building a large route and intentionally using seasonal textures and trees so I can create various scenarios to keep it interesting to run once it's done. I have ideas for sessions involving bad weather, rescuing broken down trains, navigating around track work, etc. - added challenges so I won't get bored with it after spending so long building it!

Anyway, thanks all for the suggestions. I will experiment with the triggers. I've seen the change weather commands but never tried them. This would be a good excuse to try!

I am assuming there is a "wish list" thread somewhere for features we'd all like to see in future patches or editions of Trainz? I can think of a bunch including this one! It would be nice to have some kind of ability to block rain/snow under roofs in general. I have a large terminal with a roof and it is annoying to have it raining under it as if it was unprotected. So many folks try to be as prototypical as possible about tracks, switches, signals, movements, etc. and yet this is such a fundamental thing to have so "unprototypical!" Of course, it's easy for me to complain...I don't have the skills to fix it! :o

Post your wish list in the Suggestion Boxcar forum. This will be moderated (reviewed) then posted at some point. I have plenty to add to and I don't have skills for this stuff either.
