Water...

Hi all--

I need your help, please. I have TRS2009. Whenever in Surveyor mode and I hit the water button, it hangs up the computer. Eventually, I get an error message that says something like, 'Trainz not working'.

Thanks,

Bob

So the service pack has done nothing? Mhmm, are you using the digital download? Can you also please explain what happens? You put the cursor over the place you want water, and when you click, it freezes? Could I please get your computer specs, for me and many others it would help alot!

Thanks Ryan.

The first answer is: yes, we've downloaded and installed the service pack. Yes, it does freeze. What I'm doing is when I click on 'water' in Surveryor mode and I place the dotted line area that is always circling, nothing happens. It stops circling.

Computer spec's. Dell Inspiron 530S. It's a Core 2 Duo processor,. 2.2Ghz, 800 FSB, 2G RAM. On board video card.

(This is Bob's son that is typing this and giving the spec's. Dad's sort of computer illiterate, so be patient!!)

Thanks for your help,

Bob

That is no problem and thanks for the specs. The only problem I could possible see is that your ram could be too small. Trainz is a graphical program, and the has like 12 different setting (choppy, rough, calm etc.) If possible I would try to get 2g of ram to add to your computer. When you download routes that have water in it does it freeze?

Thanks!

Hi Bob & son,
My appoligies for bumping in hear. I have two sugestions that may help, 1st; As suggested above, increase your ram up to 3 or 4 gigs. 2nd; buy a seperate video card.

PC's that have "onboard video only" where never really designed to be gaming PC's. Check that you have a PCI - Express 16 slot on your motherboard and if so I would strongly recommend that you go out and buy a good video card. (the more you are prepared to spend on a good video card, the better frame rates/smoother running you will get).
Note; Large detailed routes on any version of Trainz can be very resourse hungry/taxing on your system...
Trainz's - (infact all games) will run alot better/a lot smoother, with much better frame rates if you buy a good seperate video card.
I can't guarantee that this will solve your water problem, but it will certainly greatly improve your Trainz experience/frame rates...

To put some of the above simply; Alot of water on a layout can slow your frame rate down. (water, for some reason seems to be a little more resourse hungry). - If you only have 'onboard video' your CPU is doing all the work, rather than a seperate GPU on the video card doing all the video work.

If that doesn't solve the problem you could try turning down your "detail" settings, & try running the game in a lower screen resolution...
Even try switching to "Direct X" rather than "Open GL" (or visa versa).
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Mac...
