Water effect level again

Good news! I've got the water back again. One slight problem: at present, I haven't rediscovered how to change the water level, but at least I can see water again in places.
To avoid any further confusion are we talking about the old Legacy Water (from TRS12 and earlier) or the Water Effect Layer (from TRS19, TRS22, Trainz Plus)?

For the legacy water the water is painted and raised/lowered using the terrain tools. There is a set of water control buttons.

For the Water Effect Layer you set the Surveyor 2.0 brush tool to the Effect name in the Brush Target drop down box, then use the Height Up/Height Down/Set Height/Grade actions from the 2nd drop down box with the settings in the Tool Options Palette. See How_to_Use_S20_Tools#Water_Effect_Layer

Thanks. Effect Layer it is. I thought it was as you say, but my initial attempt put the water under ground, so I thought I'd better check. I have to have somewhat sloping rivers, although I find it easier to mark different levels with waterfalls, but this time, I want to use several water layers with different appearances - calm, agitated and rushing - I think there are enough presets.
Amazing how, after so many false tries, my route somehow reset itself and gave me the proper effects window. This is a strange game these days! I used to know what I was doing!

My whole game seems to have changed. Before, I had to save almost every minute in case there was a crash and so many things were either slow or didn't work properly, Now, everything is back to normal. I did have a Mac update yesterday, so that's the only explanation I can think of. Anyway, I'm not complaining: I'm playing Trainz again, which for me means creating routes.

Good Point! Sometimes, with this game, I seriously suspect astrological or demonical interference.
I usually watch for alien visitors as well. LGM like to invade computers and do things to them especially if they're running TRS22 and on long weekends.

Good Evening,

It has been a hectic week, hopefully this next week will be better.

So I have upgraded to TRS22 PE (Platinum Edition) and decided to purchase a new Route made for TRS22, The Route name is Milton Valley Railroad, version 5.4. No problem purchasing or downloading it.

Problem is and I saw this in another older Route, Strange Water like area on the tiles, Its not Water per say, but what it looks like is a Reflective Water Look. Never seen anything like this. I took some pictures for you to see what I see.

Where this is, there should not be any Water Period. The only way I could get rid of it, as I couldn't get it to read as Water or maybe a River Water Asset, would be Copy and paste another area of the Route over it. Which wipes out all the assets there. Because I am just using a piece of Plain Texture off another part of the Route.

I could wipe out the Tile and redo the section, but that would be a mess.

IS it possible that this is a Living Water or something. I am knew to TRS22 PE and don't know all the nuances just yet.

Using Win11.

Circled in Red, using Wire Mode, so you see Grey area of Water like Reflection.

This is a close up of what it looks like, and there is no Water in this area?

This was one section I left alone after copy and paste Texture from another area of the Route where nothing like this was there.

All settings in TRS22 are on Ultra.

Appreciate any help, I am baffled on this one.

Update: I don't know what changed, but all of sudden, this weird Water Effect vanished, now the areas look OK, the only thing I did different was do a DBR normal rebuild.

I went thru and read all the messages here,

I didn't use Surveyor 2.0 yet, I continue to read up and try to learn about this Clutter and Water Effects.

Glad I still have TRS2019 Platinum till I get a grip on this weird Water Effect.

That is the water layer. You may find that S2 has a water level of 0m and the ground is slightly below 0m. Use the paste brush to lower the water in that area.

I also suspected what @stagecoach stated above so, to confirm it, I downloaded and installed the Milton Valley Railroad.

Two things that I noticed, and as you observed in your edited post:-
  1. there is no Water Effect Layer present in the route - none at all
  2. zooming in on exactly the same location shown in your 2nd image, there is no water covering the tracks or entering the tunnel
A DBR seems to have cleared the problem.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but in a case like this is there an option just to lower the water level? Otherwise, it seems it would show up in every low spot.
If you select the Water Effect Layer in the S2.0 Brush Tool there is a Brush Action (2nd drop down menu) labelled Bulk Adjust. Select this action and then left click and drag on the terrain. Depending on which direction you drag (forwards or backwards) those parts of the water effect layer that have not had already their height adjusted (i.e. everywhere else) will be moved up/down.

This will continue until the "bulk layer level" reaches the same heights as those previously adjusted areas of water. At which point those areas will also be moved up/down. Eventually you will reach a height where the water layer everywhere is at a new height.

I have found that the larger the route the slower the movement is and the longer it takes. In those cases it is often easier to delete the entire water layer and recreate it at a new starting height.

My "rule of thumb" first step when creating a water effect layer is to identify the lowest part of the route and then create the water layer a few metres below that height.

My experiences anyway.

Folks thank you all for the excellent advice,

I'll read up more on this Water Effect business, I am still using Surveyor 1 in TRS22, time to start reading and using Surveyor 2 now.

It is a long (and sometimes frustrating) learning curve but once you have mastered S2.0, and it took me about a year in stages, you will never go back to Classic.

I hear that, I can say this much, with new Computer Laptop, DBR runs a heck of lot faster, and now with my RTX 2040 NVIDIA, 8 GB VRAM, the view on these routes, with lot less latency is amazing. Should have upgraded long ago!

Don't mind taken the time to learn new tricks, sounds like it is well worth the effort. Going to go look in YTube and see if there is some Videos I can watch for 22 Version.
