video questions

Been playing 12, really like it but having some video questions.
System specs below.

12 will not run in full screen mode, only windowed, I get black screen, no cpu light, wait 15 minutes, got to power down.

In windowed mode, video choppy for a while then seems to smooth out a bit after 5 minutes, I see track being laid ahead of my while driving. I think it did it in default settings too so I re-set.
have settings down to
OpenGL 1024x768, depth16, Aspect-auto, Antialias-2
Refresh auto-auto, misc both blank.

Any settings or help to smooth out graphics appreciated.

Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)
2.60 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
4096 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti, 2Gb mem
Currently using DVI to VGA connection.

Acer flat screen monitor max 1366x768 75hz refresh, currently set at 1280x1024/75

Thanks

Hi Stimpy,

Ensure you have installed DirectX 9 add-ons even if you have the current DirectX drivers. These extensions will load in with the current drivers and cause no harm. The web installer is available directly from Microsot.

Ensure that the display settings in the program are the same resolution as your desktop display. Running in a window may actually help performance as it does for me.

Ensure your drivers are up-to-date. The latest NVidia drivers are available directly from them and seem to work quite nicely compared to their previous release.

John

Hi John,

I found the new NVIdia driver, will load,
SO, should I be using the directx and not the OPenGL ?

Loaded latest Nidia and dirext-x 9,
Switched to DX9 from OpenGL, re-set 12 to my screen res, 1280x1024, Still in window's mode.
Flow is not as choppy but still watching tracks laid as I drive and some dont till I am past them.

Running Cnet Turbo Boost as well.

Any Ideas

Now we've made progress. Are you up to the latest patch with TS12? I can't remember now if you patched or not with all the confusion and broken threads, and missing login. (Blah!!!!). The patch to the HF3 solves that problem somewhat.

I run my installation exactly like you do. Desktop resolution but in a window. The performance is much better. This could be an NVidia-related thing because I run it full screen on my laptop which has an ATI card.

Thanks John and Whitepass,
I have Build 58414 (just bought and downloaded 2 weeks ago)
Should be the latest.

Graphics still choppy, drive on tracks sometimes (sometimes NOT) I think the tracks should be the first video rendered and farther backgrounds lower priority, (well just my version of common sense programming)
Video stops(pauses) for 3-4 seconds every couple minutes.

SO, any idea if my system specs at the top are just too low/old like me.... lol
My Atari-400 in 1982 ran games faster. ROFLMAO

Also running turbo boost in my CNET Advanced system Care Pro. wich is my AV also.
Is there better game booster out there or any tweeks or services list to turn off????

Thanks

I have full access to both.

So before I ask more stupid noob question, I read the guides from shaneturner12 tutorals post.
It seems a bit more higher level as I still am confused.

Is there a few links in the forum for REALLY NOOB DOPE GUIDES?
