hi guys i have a video card question thats probably been asked and answered 100 times or more, right now i have a gtx 680 with 2 gigs of vram, currently the gtx 780 was just released and hardly trails the gtx titan and has 3 gigs of video ram, my question is, will i benefit going from the gtx 680 to the 780 in trainz? has trainz become more gpu dependent yet? from what i read its a 35% increase in performance in the 780 compared to the 680, i am planning on selling my 680 i just bought 3 months ago and buying the 780, any comments help ect.... ?

When you say it is released, is it actually on sale over there? It will supposedly cost £549 in the UK http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/gtx-780-revealed-by-nvidia/031022 and for that price you can get a used or possibly even new GTX 690.
Although I have the 690 I am pretty sure all these cards are overkill for Trainz.

At the moment I'm thinking my GTX680 I7 3770K plus SSD's is probably overkill as it runs pretty much perfectly on my Phenom 1090T GTX460 setup just at lower FPS and a lot warmer! Haven't even bothered to look at overclocking on either setup. The only problem with Trainz is that infernal inbuilt limiter which is going to cut in whatever you are using.

If you are running other latest games then it may be worth the upgrade, for just Trainz, probably not, I'd hang on and see what transpires out of the SP1 mess or the next version. I tend to Upgrade Graphics every 2 Years not every year, can't quite justify that!

i know nobody wants to hear the word railworks, but i am still unable to play railworks maxed out with my evga gtx 680 super clocked card, the gtx 780 benchmarks show slightly under the gtx titan, i was gonna sell my 680 for 400 because its only 3 months old and throw 250.00 with it for the gtx 780, what do you guys think? i play alot of difrent games.

As a gtx580 owner, I would skip it. GPU above a 680 will gain less than changing to dual SSDs on RAID0.

too late i already ordered the gtx 780 and will have it wednesday, have my gtx 680 posted on creiglist for 380.00, my target for the 780 is because i am going to be buying metro last light, what i understand it will bring any pc to its knees. the 780 will be good for me for a couple generations and then i will upgrade to whatever is out in 2 years.skipping the haswell this time around for 2 years as well, i am gonna start staying 2 generations behind, its getting to expensive

No metro last light does not bring the computer to its knees..I run it on the system in my siggy(1st one) maxed out and on a 2TB 7200rpm HDD and it runs at about 40fps, is that an uber amazing fps? Nope...but more then satisfactory. I would've saved your money..

I would have to agree here. Never too late to return it, by the way.

I am sure it will be a superb card but you'll have to forgive me for doubting that you'll have it "2 years". If you have only had your 680 for three months it sounds as though you have Upgrade Obsession - I bet you will have the 880 when it is released and then the 980 :hehe:

your funny and probably right lol, i played metro last light with my gtx 680 last night and the graphics are amazing, my 780 will be here tommorow, i just hope i can offload my 680 tommorow as well,i am not a huge fan of fps's but the eye candy in last light i couldn't pass up, and i know the dirty word railworks, hopefully i will be able to max it out without any stutters. you can max trainz out on any 6 series card.and i do you my 3d vision at times the jr locos look nice with 3d vision.
