VERY AMAZING TRACK.

The only issue i have with the undo button is that once in a while it crashes the game, it just exists to Desktop. In rest seems to be working fine. I'm using TRS 06.

I've been going through this I'm almost going mad. It's getting EXTREMELY OFTEN now, when ever I do some "sensitive" action, such as connecting track to a bridge, another track spline will go completely mad and relocate itself to some faraway place.

AHhh ... I have seen this before but only with 1 piece of DEM ... Does the track also disappear underground ??

Its not a bug at all. You are the problem. Remember it is flex track. This means that moving/altering one area of the track will have an influence on other part of the flex track. Compare it with a rope. When moving one end of the rope the entire rope will move.
...
Well since this has kind of been dismissed as the cause of the current problem I won't dwell on it. I would though like to correct the impression that changing one spline section (with the straighten tool) or moving 1 vertex point somehow effects the entire spline - it doesn't. It is after all a mathematical entity. The spline shape at any vertex is determined only by the adjacent connected spline section(s). This is because Trainz uses only the chord direction (the straight line between vertex points) along with the straighten bit status to determine the spline shape. All the chords except the 2 attached to a vertex remain unchanged when a vertex is moved. Moving the point won't affect the spline shape more than 1 vertex away from it. Straightening a spline section will only affect the shape in the adjacent sections directly connected to it.

Sorry but that's the way it works in Trainz. It's a very simple way to ensure continuity of slope where the spline sections join that requires only the location of 3 adjacent spline vertices. If it affected the entire spline it would require the solution of a large number of simultaneous linear equations with an equally large number of terms to determine the shape.

If you use the undo button you might get the impression that a whole lot of them change at once but that's because like a lot of things it works with Trainz appears to hold a buffer of spline points at a time and re-displays the whole buffer when a change is undone.

I am sorry I gave the impression more then two sections of track can be influenced by moving one spline point. My rope allegory was badly picked.

It's amazing the urban legends that Trainz users are willing to buy into, and then perpetuate unto others.

Let me guess...your referring to my comment about TRS06.

Has TRS06 magically patched itself since SP1?

So all the problems with TRS06 that caused so many to go back to TRS04 have been solved?

Wow, when did that miracle happen? Talk about an urban legend!:hehe:

Wasn't there a problem with splines spontaneously migrating south for winter if the spline points were too far apart? I don't remember exactly, but I do make a point of having at least one splinepoint on each baseboard I pass through because I remember something like that.

 Claude

Blackwatch: Yes I have noticed that using undo sometimes cause this problem as well, although at othet times it could be connecting track to a bridge, deleting track connecting to an interactive asset (such as a wter tower) or just a simple height change.

Nismit: Clear the cache chump files? What are these and how do I do it? No harm tying. =)

Maybe it would be better if you enlightened us to what you are referring, not everyone can read minds. :(

Or better still, offer Nicky an answer to his problem. ;)

using "undo"

Nicky: My apologies for telling you to use the "undo" button in another thread. I have never had the problem with "undo" that some others have.

PS: If this problem has been getting worse over time, then, I would have to agree with Euphod...try a re-install.

Yes, as a matter of fact it has been quite a nuisance since I started using 06, over time I learned to be more careful and undid less stuff, although there were times I undid an entire yard section! I'm trying not to use undo on this particular route as it seems to have occured the most while I was building it.

Thanks for the help, pal. If this get's any worse, I'm going to find out how to back up my routes. Gah, I can't wait for TC3 anyway. :p
