Vanishing Track In Surveyor

Not sure who else encounters this, but not uncommon working in Surveyor for track splines to vanish (often entire lengths) as you pan the camera around making it hard to follow what you have and haven't done. This only seems to affect certain types of spline - for example just about all the UK bullhead types do this (both the alpha and non-alpha variants) whereas the VR track or Russian tracks don't.

The answer is probably doing route development on a laptop over two years old and maybe not man enough to cope with TS12, but then you would think if that was the case it would affect all splines not just certain ones. Either that or use the splines which don't have an issue - even if not strictly accurate for a pre-modern era UK route.

Hi Vern,

Probably depends on the poly count of the spline. The UK bullhead tracks are very high poly, I tend to use MP track where possible it's a low poly track.

I had a similar problem when laying track for long stretches. I was trying to build a 20-board long area and tried to lay one length of track the whole distance. I clicked and dragged and all looked normal for a while and then about five or six boards in, the track disappeared. The end circles were visible, but not the track. The solution was to lay it in smaller five board lengths and then link them together. The poly count maxed out what my video card could handle over a certain length. So perhaps laying your track in shorter lengths might also help?

I've seen this often, Vern. It's not just track, but roads, clumps of trees, buildings, etc. I think it's the result of the so-called fixes with TS12 SP1 HF4 and the popping up objects.

Hopefully the problem will be eliminated in T:ANE. In the meantime I guess the answer is to use less poly hungry track (it can always be swapped out later).
