Valleys

Happy New Year one and all,

I'm getting stuck on a route, I need to run the rails down a small narrow valley, ok I can place the track at 0 then drop to -1 but as soon as I try to drop the ground level to suit the valley it widens the valley so much that instead of having a single track it's wide enough for three tracks.

There is obviously some means by which it can be done but every time I try the valley ends up being too wide.

Any thoughts????

Unless you manually manipulate each and every grid point on your grade, I don't think there is any other way to do it.

To my knowledge, there is no way to "adjust" the width of the "Right of Way" created using the "fit terrain to track" tool.
-If there is, I'd like to know about it too, because I agree with you 100%, way too wide.

First, check that your grid spacing is 5m rather than the default of 10m. with a 5m grid you can get much more detail into the terrain.

You will always need to manually adjust the edge of the cutting to make it look realistic - the default format produces a regular pattern.

If it's still too wide, look for an asset marked 'embankment' or 'cutting' or 'cliff' similar - these assets are designed to provide a typical narrow railway cutting with walls that follow the curvature of the track. In some cases they are simple scenery items - in other cases they have attached track.
