G'day skystar,

Where the route you are building actually covers is of little or no interest under the circumstances but it sounds like a most intriguing project (I know very little about Kenya's railways).

Anyway on to your problem. Assuming you have successfully georeferenced the map clippings, the next step is to obtain the DEM data from the SRTM covering the area you are 'modelling'. Make sure when doing this that you obtain the tile with the filename that is the south west corner of the area you are covering plus 1. That is to say, if the area you are covering is within the boundary of S30E23 (South West corner) and S29E22 (North East corner),then you must download the filename S31E23.

Then, you need to use the Simple Route Editor to create a polyline that you can then use during the export into Trainz.

Basically, the whole process is covered in all of the tutorials that are available in "the good doctor's" instructions...

Transdem (Trainz Edition) does not yet support TS2009.
It works great with TS2006 though.
I believe there is an update coming, but before it can happen, Auran has to finish tweaking the file structure for TS2009.

Thank you for the replies. Next question, Can I get dem of google earth 5 for the above area.

Answer is most appreciated

G'day skystar,

Short answer?...No! You can only get DEM (Digital Elevation Models) from sources that specifically cater for them (such as the N. A. S. A. S. R. T. M. that I mentioned above). Google Earth (the version is irrelevant) will only provide you with potential overlays that can be used to indicate the location of Topographical information onto the separately obtained DEMs. You say you have used TransDEM (up to a point), yet your question indicates a complete lack of knowledge of the basic processes involved. I realise we all have to start somewhere but you can't have acheived the apparent level you claim without knowing that which I have just espoused...

...again, I urge you to read the tutorials - all is revealed there-in...

To get transdem into 2009 i just firstly import the file into 06 then export the CDP...then open it in 2009. Then I just convert all the tiles to 5m grid...seems to work great for me...maybe i'm missing something

G'day Jayturf,

How in heaven's name did you come up with that answer for skystar's question????? That's like giving the answer "a dog" to the question; "What is the largest mammal living on earth?"...

...however, if that is what skystar wants to know, then perhaps he needs to use better language so that the rest of us can understand his needs better...

Google Earth 5

Actually Guys what Skystar was asking about DEM data in GE5 is possible.

There is a nice little addon that can be found here

It is an addon that allows the user to view SRTM 90m Digital Elevation Data from the whole world and also download it for use in DEM programs.

I was actually shown this by somebody on the Trainz IRC channel but unfortunately can't remember who it was, they was looking at the possibility to use this data in TS2009 but not sure if they succeded.

G'day Jerk

i was actually replying to fwassner or whatever his name is. sorry for the confusion

G'day Jayturf,

In that case, then your response makes imminent sense. In such circumstances, though, we usually specify to whom our replies are intended in this forum (I personally start a new paragraph to a different person using my standard greeting - "G'day ...", others use the 'per' symbol "@..." - ...whatever jerks your chain), just some indication that the response is NOT intended for the original poster...

Thanks to Napalm and Jayturf for your info, as for MR. jerker I think you need to cool it and stop your rude comments, and assuming that everyone is dump and stupid. My question was simple and straight forward the answer should have been NO! GE5 does not support this, that's it.

By the way, I would suggest that you take some time and study the world and some people's skill, my friend you lack knowledge and get rid off that chip on your shoulder.

As for the tutorials in Transdem, are great when you can go through them, some of the sites do not even open therefore, you cannot complete some tutorials

I was under the impression that this forum was to give and receive help.
