Using old (TRS04) .gnd file with TS12?

Poor & Needy
Without getting too deep in the primordial ooze, I'm used to the "old" Trainz versions - TRS2004 is the most recent version I know. Years ago I created a .gnd file using HOG. This past weekend I bought TS12 and am fiddling with it. I poked around and figured out where to drop the old file but when it opens in Surveyor all the grid lines are wonky. I'm not really surprised; the local content folder structure is different, it looks like the Trainz grid is more refined than it was, and there are probably more sophisticated terrain generators out there now. I'm actually surprised the mapfile opened at all. Apart from the gridlines and the obvious seams along where baseboards join, the terrain looks like it should. But is there a way to use the old .gnd file while preserving the grid lines? Perhaps it would be better to ask, is there a proper way to bring in an old .gnd file at all or is it better to start over? Thanks!

BTW this is just the bare bones I'm talking about importing - no track, no scenery, no nothing. Just terrain.

I have often wondered what exactly is the big difference in a 09, 10, 12 route, and why it is not backdateable into 06, or 04 ?

Can an 06 route be backdated to run in 04 ?

Is it true that all routes are not backdateable to a lower trainz-build ?

I also have found that TRS04 routes do not import into TS09 and upwards. What I have found is that if the route is loaded into TRS2006 then resaved the new map has a structure that later versions of Trainz can read without problems. Unfortunately as you can only go from TRS2004 to TS12 this does not help you but it might be of use for others reading this thread.
