I disagree with you on that. You are way off base. There is a place called Youtube where you can watch a video on pretty much any type of locomotive or train there is no matter where you are in the world. There is no excuse.
The other issue, which has already been mentioned is copyrights. You need permission from the original video creator to extract sounds from his work, Even though a work, whether it is a video, film, 3d model, or picture is presented in public, the original author still retains the ownership. Copying or using someone else's work without permission is considered a copyright violation.

I know this, and understand all of that. I mentioned Youtube simply for the fact that it was mentioned that someone said people in some parts of the world have no idea what a GE and EMD sounds like in real life. So I said to go Youtube to compare the two. I didn't say go there and take the sounds off Youtube or to steal anyone's copyrights. I don't understand where you're getting that at. I cannot stress it anymore clearly, or stress it enough- The sounds/specs already exist on the DLS but they aren't being utilized the creators. .The sounds on YouTube or other video sources are not clear enough for proper engine sounds. Usually the video-audio track is highly compressed and it also is severely clipped because the recording levels are too high. This causes a lot of distortion. People have used video recordings for whistles, horns, and bells, and they sound like they're from really bad recordings.

So unless the sounds already exist, or you want to use your own, it is what it is.

I'm not quite sure if you recorded a horn or engine sound off of Youtube, and used it for a TRAINZ locomotive, that anyone would recognize it and sue you. That sounds very far fetched. Who in their right mind would want to spend thousands of dollars for a lawyer to take anyone to court on something like this. Oh, sure, I know there's common courtesy and all that, not using someone's video sounds, but it would be nearly impossible IMHO for anyone to recognize and say, "Hey, that horn on that Trainz GP38-2 is off a video I took five years ago! I'm gonna SUE their butts for all it's worth!"
If it was an original music composition or a video and used in a TV ad or the like, then sure that might be worth suing someone over, but an obscure sound from a passing locomotive, I just can't see how a judge would rule that the guy who made the video "owns" that sound.
Ouside of common courtesy to the videographer, I can't see any reason not to use a sound off Youtube for Trainz. Just my own opinion from the facts I have presented in this post.

I'm with Dave and JohnnyC1 as well on this. If you don't like it, you can always fix it yourself. This is unlike other programs where you're stuck with what you're given.
Keep in mind too, PARAILFAN, that many people may like the looks of the locomotives on the outside but have no way of obtaining the actual sounds of the real thing. They could possibly be located in another part of the world where these locomotives don't exist and all they have access to are the built-in sounds, and have no way of knowing what the difference is between a GE or EMD locomotive.

You do understand that most of the content authors say in their configuration files that the content may not be changed or modified. So what gives?I agree with you as well With my models are all custom made and sometimes its imposable to get the real sounds for that project so you have to make due with what you get. way I see it if you don't like the way it sounds then fix it or don't download it I spent hrs on hrs making it and building a model Expl: take my DPR models there all custom made and if I can find the right sounds for the unit I'm working on I'll add it if I can't I'll make due with what I can find. There an old saying that goes "don't anger a house builder whos building your house"

Sorry I have not used this forum for a while, and with good reason. It is bad when someone from Auran has to come in and delete personal attacks. I have no plans to single out any certain items or members as that will just create more backlash. I just made a post on here earlier about wanting to work together with a creator to make some locomotives. No answers. Keep on keeping on, guys. You know you still have not given an example of what files are bothering you for anyone to guide you to a solution. Do you really want an answer or you just want to complain about content creators?

Not exactly sure why you have taken offense. I've downloaded your Conrail U18B loco and it did actually have the RIGHT engine sounds. The GE 7FDL-12. I was very fond of your work even though I've now lost respect for you because of this post. You will have a hard time finding a Content Creator to "work with you", when you make posts un-duely critisizing said Content Creators choices and selections of dependencies.
There has been a LOT of "calling out" the Content Creators here lately, between your "sounds" thread, and someone else's "Thumbnail" thread, and the other thread about "Descriptions"...
--All I can say is: If you think you can do a better job, then DO IT!.
If you have better sounds, document them (KUID:, Name, Etc.), and send a note to the Original Creator to ask if they agree those sounds might be better.
-If you want a thumbnail, or description for something that don't have one, Take a picture, and write a description, then send that info to the original creator...offer your assistance rather than your COMPLAINING...
---Then, you might have a snow ball's chance of getting someone to "work with you".
I don't think he meant in directly at you, there has been all sorts of stuff from a variety of users wanting this or that. What he was trying to point out is that if you (entire community) would help give the exact info to the creators, stuff would get done faster. Content creation can feel like a game you'll never win if people keep complaining and are never happy. Not exactly sure why you have taken offense.
