Using Custom Trains?

Hey guys, I'm new here. I have TRS2004, and I want to use some cool trains from the Download Station.

I downloaded a Genesis Amtrak and a Chesapeake & Ohio Engine, only for them to not show up in the game!
I've searched these forums for this problem, but none of the solutions work for me. The two engines mentioned above have a name in TRS2004, but vanish when I click on them. I put the kuid files for the two engines in the TRS2004/World/Custom folder in a folder I made titled "Trains".
Is this the correct method of moving kuid files? These two engines came in a content dispatcher file, and it extracted them to TRS2004/World/Dispatcher/Downloads, where I moved them to the "Trains" folder.

Help would be appreciated.

The Genesis Amtrak is labelled on the DLS as being for Trainz 2009 (and above) so that is why it does not appear in your Trainz 2004 program. I suspect that it will be the same story for the other locomotive.

When you are browsing through the DLS web site look for the label "TS12", "TS2009", "TRS2004" etc just beneath the name of the item. This will tell you which version of the program is needed.

The Genesis showed up with TRS2004 only checked. Same thing with the Chesapeake & Ohio. I think the kuid files are in the wrong folder, or something.

Is there a tutorial on how to properly install custom made engines in TRS2004? I can download files, but they don't show up in-game.

There should be no need to create a folder unless you are making your own content or modifying someone else's content. In 2004, if you double click on the cdp it should self install into TRS2004\world\custom\dispatcher\downloads where it will be in its own folder named by it's kuid number.

If it does not show up in the game it may have a trainz-build number that is higher than 2.4, ie for later versions of the game, or it may not have all the required dependencies that are needed, or it may be faulty in some other way. A useful little program for you to download would be TrainzObjectz by Terry Franks which will help you find and fix problems in 2004....a kind of predecessor to the CM in later versions of the game.

Yes, the downloaded files are in their own folders named by the kuid numbers in the folder path you mentioned. I have TRS 2004 version 2.2 build 2285. Where should the kuid files go exactly?

gfisher just told you. kuid folders go in the TRS2004\world\custom\dispatcher\downloads folder. Start Windows explorer and look at some of the folders in the downloads folder. Double clicking a .cdp file should automatically load into the right place. If you have assets that aren't showing up you have to download TO so you can troubleshoot and fix them.

You need to update your build to SP4, you can do that here :-
http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/default.htm?__utma=1.1439714438.1317203315.1317203315.1317203315.1&__utmb=1.2.10.1317203315&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.1317203315.1.1.utmcsr=forums.auran.com|utmccn=%28referral%29|utmcmd=referral|utmcct=/trainz/showthread.php&__utmv=-&__utmk=245276549

Just select your build numberfrom the bottom line & update to version 2.4.

Or if you prefer, I can send you the file in an email, just pm me your addy.

Thanks, maybe upgrading will fix the problem. I'll edit this post if I still have problems.
EDIT: Does any content from the user CincySouthernRwy work? I tried a few engines from this user, and none work. I tried some engines from other users, and they work.
